First build - team unknown - SA
Hey all. Finally making some progress building my first bot. I will have photos up soon. I have all the components for the drive and weapon systems now cant wait to start assembly.
Anyone got any suggestions on what to make there frame out of?
Thin wall RHS is usually best bet for starting out. I would use that with a cutting board base.
It's strong has a big air gap inside which works well as armour. It's a little heavy so not the most efficient way but you can cut and weld it relatively easily. Good starting point for an armoured box.
I strongly suggest just getting something driving around first, like a piece of MDF with some holes cut in it. (if its your first time building stuff like this)
After that yeah what marto said, RHS is probably going to be your best bet. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Like Jake said, an MDF model is a great starting point. Try to make it the same shape & size as the final bot so you see how to fit all the parts in, route the wiring and how it operates. Even after 10 years of building, I still make MDF models to start a new design. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

Still slightly confused if this is the proprietary intermediate format used by xyzware then I doubt anything else can generate it. What printer are you trying to use? What is wrong with slic3r or cura?
