Yeah spinners on back burner so doing a lifter. Keen to have it done for Saturday but if ur swamped then don't stress it nick. He'll having larger bot parts on display will be enough of a talking starter not to mention sofa Power chair getting there attention. _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

Sorry, camping this weekend requiring me to get my boat fixed is chewing up all my free time this week _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam

How much work is needed to just make the arena enclosed, to smash some things / make lots of noise safely? Looks like we wont be having a comp... _________________ ( •_•)

The arena will be enclosed if it makes it at all - I need to get the whole thing of the table saw and onto a flat ttrolley so I can reach inside to attach the vertical aluminium angle that joins the edges of sides together - 32 screws to insert and its ready to use. I just need a few hours and no rain!
I am almost finished my 2 am work early, so if the weather is good, the arena may be finished today

After a false start yesterday and a quick re-design, the final parts of the arena are going together and its making the wobbly 3mm sides much stiffer - just a few hours to go
Phase two with the wood surrounds will not be ready for the weekend, but that won't affect the performance, just the looks.
The Spark fun parts should arrive tomorrow so I can start designing the electronics for phase 3.

I haven't even started on the flyer, was going to knock something up tomorrow. There is a huge colour printer at work that costs zero for prints . If you want to knock up something for a flyer, that would be excellent and I will print them tomorrow.

Arena, we haz one!
Its all done bar tidying up and pulling the protective coat off:
In the next stage there will be a wood surround on the base to cover up all those screws and later on it will get a stand so a trapdoor can be added.

Ahhh. <sigh> Nostalgia..
am I a good flyer designer or what ?
Do you know how *many* of those I printed (paid for myself) and distributed in the early days ? Business Cards, Magazine ads, Newspapers, Radio etc etc. No-wonder I'm a burned-out grumpy ol bastard now
Something to keep in mind though for those guys who still think "we just need to get some more exposure and people will come"..
Its not failing to fly just through lack of publicity guys.. something about the game needs to be changed if there are still folk out there that want to "grow" the sport.
You will need to build a hobby-shop parts distribution network with interested middlemen, resellers, upgrade-parts or *something* different to just beating the drum louder or more.. I dont think anyone is Australia has hammered the drum as long or loudly as I have, so I should know.
Thanks for the memory glen ! _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

I don't really expect hordes of new builders; as long as I get to have regular fun events then I'm happy.

Likewise! It'll be interesting seeing what the crowd is like. Fantastic build nick, my ant may be the first to 'christen' it with cute little scratches. _________________ ( •_•)

I have put together 33 video clips that show a good variety of bots from all states and the US, it will play in a loop on our table and that will definitely attract people.

I am doing that flyer - its not going to be so great as my #$&%* graphics package is crashing every 10 minutes.
Quick question; what was the minimum age for joining the club? I think it was 15 yo?
