heres a few things i ve come up with soccer ,please add any suggestions
1. 2 bots per team [2 teams per game ]
2. 2x 3min halves
3. courtney suggested put the goals in the corners to make bouncing off walls more afficient
4. i thought why not put 4 goals in the arena ,one in each corner would make scoring a bit easier ,we dont want endless draws
5. no one robot is allowed to park in front of a goal ,how about a boxed arera in front of each goal and a 10 sec time limit set ,similar to basketball in the key rule
6. if a draw occurs a penalty shoot out is used to decide a winner ,this could be done by using no goal keeper rule and reduced goal size but a robot has to shoot within 10 sec of the whistle being blown , no dribbling is allowed the ball is placed on a designated penalty spot and pushed in the direction chosen
7.i guess if for some reason a count back is needed during the event ,teams who scored goals during normal game time would be favoured . _________________ Photos - http://community.webshots.com/album/154092733uokpXC

how about instead of having goals we have a small trianglular one-way ramp the bots push the ball over into the triangle corner, and the ball can't come out. You could also use the same thing for the hungry hungry robots game.
Are we allowing non destructive weapons to be used? I seem to remember some past soccer comp where el bravo was flipping its opponents.... that shouldn't be allowed. _________________ ( •_•)

Expanding on those ideas; why not just chuck a new ball thru the door as soon as a goal is scored? That will save plenty of time and keep the match flowing.
The goals are a problem - a ramp is clever but bots might not be able to use it or they might get stuck on it. Perhaps a very low ramp? How about a goal area lined with velcro and a fluffy soccer ball? _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

Why not? Let's try that and something lighter as well. The problem last time was that the ball rolled too well and got away from the bots frequently. Perhaps we need a soccer ball that not really ball-shaped? _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

i personally think just more weight like with a shot put ball would do as light ball like last time just bounced around arena and u barely touched it and it went flying which meant that there wasnt much controll or anything and it was alot harder
a heavier and more slower ball could make it more strategical instead of purely just blindly trying to hit it around arena and hope it goes in the goal _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

what you need is some kind of dampening, not a heavy ball.
i am thinking something like a canvas ball filled with bird seed.
that may be a bit too slow, you may want an inner "kiddy soccer ball" with a layer of something soft over the top.
i am thinking a weight of ~1-2 kg rather than 5.
we still want to be able to punt the ball. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

A tough rubber ball, part filled with a fairly thick & viscous oil? It can be fine tuned with lead shot or small ball bearings.
If we used a 10Kg steel ball, it would be a weapon in its own right once it got rolling at some speed - rollerball, anyone? _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

hehe this sounds like it will be a heavily engineered soccerball!

I was trying to avoid the "sticky liquid goo (with chunks)" failure mode, its my least faveroute failure type.
least the bird seed can be vacumed.
one of the kiddy soccer balls filled with that would probbly do nicley (and we can chuck it at wayde for being a piker when we are finished soccer).
filling the ball is left as an exercise for the reader _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets
