@ Chris: several fights for you coming tomorrow - Sorry vs Jolt is really shocking quality (plus I get owned!) but I will put it up anyways.

The *plan* was to have both wide and close-up shots and cut between them - that didn't happen when Seb's tape turned out bad. Next time, I would like a fixed camera at the back of the arena taking a wide shot all the time so we had 3 angles Smile

hmmm Nick one suggestion with sebs tape, sometime a tape will only play back correctly in the camera that recorded it. In theory it should be fine in any camera but it could be worth checking out.

Ok, I`m on it right now! Embarassed
The rc camera should have been ready but I had to concentrate on the bot in the end.

I`ve bent the aerial on the tx so it can lay flat on the desk and taken the springs out of the gimbal as we found tracking the cam with the stick gets very tireing after only a minute.
The cam pans and tilts, still have to put in zoom and start/ stop.

Zooming is a Must! You gotta have the tight shots to get the feeling of being right in the action! Any decent vid needs at least three cams, the wide shot and one to focus on each bot. The only problem with the cam at the back and then cams at the front is that the view is "crossing the line", ie, the subjects appear to swap sides from left to right; a big "No No" in the cinematography world.

Lots of cuts also increases the excitement, the more the action speeds up, so does the frequency of the cuts and the tighter the frame.

I`m not knocking Nicks work at all, It`s great and considering how fast he gets them together and I`m sure we wouldn`t even try to make every fight a mini movie masterpiece but just coming up with ideas to improve our videos over time, as with all aspects of our little sport! Very Happy

Cheers!

@ Jeff: You definitely know your film directing stuff, I haven't heard "crossing the line" for years Smile I fully agree that 3 cameras would be better and allow a decent cutting pace to keep the excitement going. Next time, we should designate each camera to follow a particular bot, or for one camera to stay wide and the other to do just close-ups. We also need to have a basic clapper board for sync, even if its just filming the door getting slammed Smile

pyrotechnic clapper!

I reckon the rules should be changed so that all bots must have a camera on them Smile

What kind of motor is in Jeff's axe robot? It looks like a rather small chain there so I'm guessing a 200 or 300 watt motor from oatly. What sort of gear ratio is on the sproket sets?

Right on the money! Its an Oatly 300W motor withthe Oatley sprocket set, whatever ratio that is... IMHO it needed higher voltage and a smarter controller but it was very effective considering that Jeff lashed it up in a very short time. I expect that he will improve it heaps fort he next event.

Nick is spot on with the axe bot, I just couldn`t get it all into a feather. It is completly dismantled and I plan to re do it as a lightweight.

Pyrotechnic clapper!
I have an rc cap gun I could put on the Refbot rebuild. The idea is to use the same base but make it as squat as possible and finally finish the crane.
Also, finish that 4wd box into a quick rambot, rebuild El B. I got the zoom working on the rc cam, now I just have to try and get the wibbly wobblies out of it Laughing
