I take it the O-Ring = some sort of slip/friction drive ?

a Direct Drive outrunner brushless is bound to destroy the spinning magnets on the first impact otherwise

Nope, not direct drive. Would risk that! The O ring is the belt, between the two small metal pulleys. ATM the only hurdle is attaching one of them securly to the brushless shaft, as they lack any setscrews or similar. I might end up ordering something from somewhere. Smile

Hmm the problem though is there's no area outside the pulley... unless you mean I could do it into the pulley surface itself... hmm... Very Happy Kewl!

Through the middle of the pully will work if it doesn't have a boss. Just make sure the grub screw is flush with the serface so it doesn't wear the belt/o-ring

Well, that didnt work. The pulley got deformed and I dont have a tap set so was trying to use screws! Laughing
I decided to reuse the old frame, seeing as it's a lot of hard work already done. I've replaced the crappy thin bar with a thick steel bar, which is longer and heavier, and hits harder! Twisted Evil Good thing about this design is I can easily change the ground clearance. Seen here, it's under 1mm hehe.
Piccies so far:

And how the electronics will fit in (not yet in there)

... yes, its a huge brushless esc lol. Smile

Beetle's have been put on hold till after robowars, however afterwards i've got plans to make a full professional one seeing as welch and nick will finaly have time to do theirs!
Just a question mainly directed at nick regarding timing belts, what width would you say is advisable? I'm thinking 10mm is slightly over kill... 5mm?

Not wanting to spam another thread, my beetle entry for battleshed's beetle comp (first ever) is pretty much done, and it hits very, very hard. Cool

Just gotta put a little armour on it, 100g underweight w00t!
