Thats pretty much what I said in my response to JD.

I think an extra 1.4Kg is too big a percentage increase for feathers, and will likely over stress existing ESC's, Battery packs and so on and decrease reliabiity.

I said I'd post it on the forum and encourage some discussion, but someone beat me to it.. Wink

I am just about to do a rebuild now. I would hate to build a bot and find it is the wrong weight.

I ordered the last ram when the feathers were 12 kg and built a robot when they were 13.6 kg. I have ordered a bigger ram and might have a heavier opponent again.

In principle, I like the idea of an international weight standard. I will build to whatever is the most favoured weight.

"I did... I honestly think 15kg is too much for a feather..."

Would you care to elaborate on your reasons?

Pretty much what glen said, it would start stressing the drills, esc's and batteries too much.

The Poms are going to spit chips. They almost all hated the 13.6 suggestion; I will have to check that thread once they get started. Smile

As far as we are concerned no problem. It certainly is a big jump for the Feathers but if Judge Dave can unify the world that has got to be good for the sport.

I think we will get use to it fairly quickly. Perhaps its because I have been playing around with the bigger bots lately that it doesn’t seem a big deal. Smile

Making the hobby weights even lighter made no sense to me.

With 15kg.. We'll get to see dual magmotor powered spinners. 6 x dewalt driven rammers...

Oh, I also think the arena will need another upgrade Confused

i can somewhat see the poing changing it for other classes BUT for featherweights its 13.6 the world over and theres no rea reason for the change, like which country builds to 15kg featherweights and if its some random country then why the #$%& do we give a damn about changing it just for them

i say u have your robot fit the rules to wherever u go, u dont like that then too damn bad

if the yanks do change it (whic they prob will as they dont really seem to care how many robots thats been built and stuff which get screwed round from this nonsense) then looks like ill need to get some thicker discs cut for orbit (a lil more weight in weopon) and a should be same as is now anyway

Why dont they standardise the 13.6kg limit? Confused

I thought we went to 13.6 kgs so we could be standardised i dont realy care but i think 15 kgs is geting too heavy for a feather as well . But i wont complain as all it will do is to actualy allow me to run some decent armour on my robots Very Happy and be back in the running with these heavily armoured bots that can aford super light batteries and expensive armour ....go the plough discs

If we went 15kg the spinners would just get bigger too.. and so again we'd soon be in same situation as now. Confused

I was just thinking about weights.

What is causing the big problem? Stupid assed Imperialism! Go the Metric system...

Looking at the original weights from the UK

100kg = HW
50kg = MW
25kg = LW
12kg = FW
100g = AW

Looking at the logical sequence of divison... The FW weight limit is where it falls apart... It should be 12.5kg to match the sequence. So lets rehash that and add the US classes in with the sequence.

100kg = HW
50kg = MW
25kg = LW
12.5kg = FW
6.25kg = HBW
3.125kg = ??
1.5625kg = BW
100g = AW

i personally agree with aaron. cobra falls into the 12.5 limit and i still think it should have stayed at 12kg from the start. but im seriously sick of having to redesign the robot to keep it at the cutting edge when rules keep getting changed for seemingly the convinience of having people compete from other places?

well it sure as hell isnt convinient for me at least... GRRRR

</end self centered ranting xD>

12.5 kg does make sense in the progression of weights.
