Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right glen?
So Russell got the drives together yesterday
Since I'm after supreme reliability of drive I'm throwing weight at them, the box around the wheels is all 12mm Al. The CNC is paying for it self with this stuff. Its not faster to make stuff with the CNC but everything just fits together once it is made lol.
I was worried about the motors hanging all the way out there taking shock loads so we made up some backing plates for them.
(now this *was* faster to do with CNC, it took about half an hour to go from "we should have that" to "we have that" ;->)
I finished welding up the top of the shell,
I was having contamination issues with some of the welds but I think i have found the cause, picking up filings from grinding with the welding rod and not noticing, urgh. Anyway the top side of the bot is all welded up, now to put the whole bot in the mill and CNC some wheel holes in it lol.
We are going to put the lid on the bottom surface, just some Al plates over port holes into the bot, hopefully everything will fit and be accessible ok lol.
We should probably make a new power switch too.
If this thing works and is fun to drive I'll think about making a bizalloy one ;-> _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets
