Well time to start thinking about our nationals competition to see who will be the best bots for 2012.
Firstly what I put forward last year was that we should have any state able to host this event. I currently have a few things in the planning stages and I would like to know if anyone else is seriously considering running something in one of the other states.
What I myself would expect from the event is:
- 2 days.
- ability to cover most weight classes
- capacity for up to 16 robots in any weight class
Preferably
- Public event
- Prize money
- Towards the end of the year
I have a few events in planning atm, (Nothing official or confirmed at this stage so don't ask) in particular one in October which is potentially a contender to host such an event. However if anyone else would like to run a nationals event and could provide fulfil the requirements then pls discuss.
I would like to reach some form of consensus in the next few weeks so I can start working on confirming things.
I have a large public event in the pipes, the details:
2 day event over a long weekend in June
All 3 weight classes with emphasis on Feathers
Substantial prize money and incentives for competing
Hosted in a prominent location in Sydney
I'm meeting with the venue in person on the 27th to discuss budget details, and as yet nothing is confirmed. If it is, I'm laying a lot on the line and would certainly like to see a big turnout. I'm also interested in encouraging 'dormant' competitors such as Gary and most of the VIC guys.
I would probably prefer to keep nationals end of the year. Its really just a title thing though. If you get some people competing in June then nationals in October might be something to aim for. _________________ Steven Martin

Two big competitions this year is definitely more motivating than one - bring it on!
What us EOs really need is robots. Not people keen to host events. _________________ Steven Martin

Is there even a single active Victorian (competed in the last year) to compete?
Do not plan on any Vic based events unless an interstater is crazy enough to organise a sidetracked event from outside the state.
I'm not sure I could commit a feather to any public events. (If I do it will be plastic due to workability) at least not for June/July. Maybe October. Can probably do an ant and beetle or two. _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.
Well tbh I am not really keen to organise anything at sidetracked via proxy.
If there was sufficient interest from builders based down in Vic potentially but otherwise its just a lot of travelling for no real reason. (Other than the already setup arena)

That wouldn't be an issue would also be renumeration involved.
29th 30th Sept, 1st Oct would be dates. One class per day is sort of looking like the plan. I need to fill a 3rd day so looking bringing up beetle arena. FYI that is a Holiday in both NSW and QLD. (Not Vic but would probably put ants on last day anyway) _________________ Steven Martin
