Chaotic Tendencies - Barton Robotics - NSW
Finally settled into my new job and with a whole cnc workshop at my disposal i thought i might make something a little more fancy, and get something sitting on the shelf for whenever a decent event is organised.
Started getting parts for the melty brain.. only waiting on the accelerometer.. got a pretty standard design cadded up to build after i do some tests.
POP
Shell is 130mm diameter x 36mm high with a 3cm tooth
Outer shell ill be getting waterjetted from 36mm Bis Alloy. it has a wall thickness of 5mm all around and 9mm on the counterweight (another words it'll be indestructible).
Will test out a few brushless motors to see which gets the right perfomance. atm ill just be going with the C3530 as i have many of them laying around.
Extremely new to all this coding and whatnot so will be interesting to see what happens, either all go up in flames or work awesomely.. either way itll be entertaining.
and yeah.. probably another week till i get the accelerometer then the fun will begin! _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:

the bisalloy shell sounds pretty serious!
nice work, bout time you got back on board _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam

It is a long way from platform to working melty. I would suggest you get testing early as there is lots of work to be done along the way. Also hit me up on MSN if you need code assistance.

haha well with seeing the epic amounts of rapage everyone gets from glen it needs to be serious
and yeah not much i can do till i get all the parts.. hopefully this week with luck.. will definitely need some help with the code when i get things under way.. trying to learn best i can but some things im like uhhh what haha _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:

If you need code to start from have a look at the following open source website (http://www.nothinglabs.com/openmelt) the admin so far has been very helpful with my melty brain designs.

and ya'll laughed at me when you saw i was doing a melty brain robot :3
yeah it doesn't translate very fast but thats mostly due to my test platform.. should hopefully have something better to use for testing soon and then can get it properly calibrated and learn how it all works properly.. then final version time hehe _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:

Nice work. Now your starting to come to the hard part, getting it to work reliably on varying surfaces, floor seams and combat conditions Is your test bed at full weight? (1.36kg?). You might want to test it at full weight as I found in MBX that 1KG made a massive difference to how it worked _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

no i haven't given up. just been busy but some design changes have been made.
Originally i was gonna have the whole frame waterjet from 36mm bis but well no matter how simply i designed it they still wanted to charge me a fortune so i scrapped that idea and had one of those "why the hell had i not thought of this" moments the other day at work which i doodled onto a piece of paper.
said piece of paper:
drew up a cad earlier today and this is what i have come up with:
Basically its 3 layers of 12mm ali bolted together with 2 6mm layered up bis400 teeth (would be 1 12mm tooth but i only have 6mm laying around)
not sure why i didnt think of this from the start seeing as i use a cnc router every day at work and i can basically make any complex design i want >_>
the teeth will be cut with the prototype cnc plasma cutter at work..
had some trouble after using a bigger wheel with motors stalling.. so i upgraded the weapon motor to the propdrive 35-48.. i figure the 800w power should be enough XD
and yeah will cut the frame out on monday and get it ready for testing event is much closer then i thought so best get a move on hmmm _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:

Looks really awesome that does. Tho maybe make it a bit bigger so there's enough room to put a cover round the motor so the wires dont get sucked into it.

all that left over space you see will be filled with foam with cutouts to seat each thing so they cant move.. found some thick foam similar to what angus uses for his wheels laying around at work.. currently converting all the drawings so that the shape is cut correctly with the router _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:

Yeah but the foam will still move into the motor under 200g or whatever the melty brain robots are subjected too _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

XD true.. ill work something out.. thing is dont really want to use 3mm ali just for that cover.. smallest cutter i got is a 3mm cutter.. ideally i would bend up a box that goes around the motor which slots into the base and top so i dont need to use bolts or anything to hold it in place... you replied to this so reply on msn i need some help for a sec xD _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:
