While I'm still sourcing parts and polishing design bits off for the next featherweight melty brain, I've started work on uMBX, a antweight melty brain. I've taken a rather shine to the antweight class due to the ability to build and battle them on my kitchen table and the parts are so cheap! Once finished, I'm planning to ship uMBX off to the UK for Joey McConnell of Team Picus Robotics to enter into one of the Antweight World Series events.

Today the first batch of parts turned up, so I decided it was worth starting a little build thread.

4 x 350mAh 20C and 4 x 400mAh 20C Zippy LiPol cells.


Just waiting for me next order of parts including hobbycity radio, carbon fiber and Vemon motor.

Decided to turn this thread into an antweights thread since I started a quick "parts on hand" antweight tonight.

You didn't mention how if you can get this one to work that hopefully MBX will do more than spin and kill gyros.

Sending off quotes in the morning for getting the chassis and carbon fiber parts water jet cut. With some hope, it might be close to complete by beginning of March.

More parts arrived today and the inwards guy at work asked me if I'm importing drugs from China

While I wait for the water jet parts and my programmer to arrive for building uMBX, I decided to knock up a quick little antweight out of some parts on hand.

Name: Little Ego

Weight: ~150gram
Length: 100mm
Width: 120mm
Height: 30mm
Drive: 2x Futaba S3003 servo's @ 7.4v, speed hacked, 30mm lego wheels. ~200mm/sec!
Battery: 1x Rhino 2S 360mAh LiPol
Weapon: 3mm Hardox Wedge
Armour: 1mm Carbon Fiber

Currently 108gram in cardboard + tape config. Should be able to lose another 5-10grams by trimming the plastic off the servos more. Hardox wedge is about 25grams worth, so that leaves me around 15grams for the chassis, which looks do able!

Test drove it earlier, it's stupidly hard to drive, cobra style. Going to have to fiddle with the spektrum rates to tame it.

16grams of weight to play with. Just need to make up a pair of teeth, the fet switch for the motor and a different hub for the wheel. Should be able to do that in 16gram .

More work
Glued the two chassis halves together. Then tapped the carbon base, mixed up some glue and epoxied it to the chassis, used servo bolts to tighten it all up while the glue set.

To cut down on the amount of wires, I've designed to mount the B328 board on top of the receiver. So I whipped up a quick adaptor board.


It should all look a bit like this when assembled


Unfortunately the adaptor is a double sided board so I'll need to send it off to BatchPCB to get made, which could take a week or three. There is also the issue of not being able to find the little 250G Sparkfun accelerometer I bought just for this project... $40 to get another one if I can't find the sucker...

Might not be ready for The Edge Workshop at this rate might just have to macgyver a few bits.

if you can send me PCB files I can probably make the PCB for you

You'd have to solder both sides of the pins because it wouldn't be plated through though.

Cheap option if you need it anyway
