NSW Round 7 17/11 - 18/11

I dropped in to Chris's this afternoon and we had a good chat about a number of things. One good idea to come out of it concerned this event date.

We both agreed that we wanted to build a lightweight, but wanted to focus on featherweights, so we would need a long time to get one going. Also we agreed that changing things up a bit adds excitement.

So thats when we worked out that we should do something later on in the year for the November event. So here's what we thought.

Saturday 3/11: Run the normal round for the feathers as we normally would. Same as always.

Sunday 4/11: Run the first NSW ligthweight fights. Run the games we ran last year for the feathers (eg Hungry Hungry Robots, Soccer, Sumo etc). And why not another little beetle competition (with no collapsible beam Smile )

The idea would be to get as many people building a lightweight over the next few months as possible but not at the expense of their featherweight bots.

November Round!!

Laughing Sounds great guys, count me in as a competitor for the sunday as Ive
already got Major Chip Hazard ready to go! I spoke to Gary last meet and he mentioned hed a lightweight ready to go (granted hes in Victoria!?)
but we may be able to lure him up here as well if this can go ahead.
Id be really keen to build a 2nd lightweight as well!-

Id like to see this happen even on a limited basis to start with-a 23,6 kg
limit allows for all kinds of serious ideas to tested out!!-Ill be keenly
dropping in on this thread to see how it goes Laughing -bring on the lightweights!!!-Jas

Could be possible; just wondering if light spinners will be OK by then or if it’s a no spinner event?

Also should we bring any Feathers or is it a NSW state champ round only?

I can't see why you couldn't bring the feathers. You'll just have to be counted in the NSW state comp Smile Join us! Twisted Evil

I think everyone would agree, the more the merrier. No matter what backwards state they are from Smile

In regard to the spinners, yes at this stage it will be a spinner event. Everything but the viewing screen is up to scratch for lightweight spinners. As the event gets closer, some communication/demonstrations of any spinners power will dictate the necessity for a polycarb upgrade. An upgrade on the viewing area was already on the table, but will just alter when that was going to happen, depending on the lightweights.

Can anyone think of some more games to play. I thought hungry hungry robots was good, but the soccer was a bit random and drawn out. I think we tried Sumo with similar result.

Regarding beetles...

I think for the moment, we should just build them to handle the arena. It's not hard, just put your weight over your wheels, if you can't drive then a different floor won't help much (as dylon found out).
It saves the trouble of having a proper beetle arena, plus I think the one we used for battleshed was ok, but a little unfair to vertical spinners. Laughing
If you're unsure just test drive your bot on some steel...

well my beetle was driving ok on that piece of cardboard, all it needs is something smooth to drive on, i think i even got it driving in the big arena, andrews one even had trouble driving before the arena fell on it and its wheels where grippy as and were pretty big to, and it usually goes a bit faster then wat it did, but they just get caught on the concrete, even laying down pieces of paper down would have made them drive better

I don't want to focus too much of the discussion on beetles, but I'm happy to have a dedicated arena for them. A couple of MDF sheets down for floor, those sides that Chris knocked up and eventually some acrylic viewing roof. The idea being it can become mobile if need be.

consensus!?

Ok-so weve got a 27.6kg weight limit, and spinners permitted after
inspection/demonstration?

Im thinking about a lightweight walker, are we still on the double weight
limit allowance for those robots? Laughing Jas.

Spinner would probably be ok provided its KE is less than the best FW in play (probably scissorhands). There are web calculators for that type of thing as i recall. Team cosmos?

Please Jason for the love of god don't mention walkers. Crying or Very sad

In fact edit your post and lets pretend you never mentioned walkers. Ok everyone? Jason never mentioned walkers. Who said anything about walkers? Nobody Evil or Very Mad

Um, let's just say you just opened up one of the largest can'o'worms imaginable. If you really want to know if walkers will be allowed in the lightweights, what constitutes a walker, or what weight bonus they will be given, then I suggest it be discussed at the next event and not on the forums. (Bad, painful memories)
