If you want fast laptop storage, the way to go IMO is firewire 800 attached RAID, although this might drag the price up a bit.
You could try something like this http://www.cooldrives.com/newulrafi800.html for 139USD (granted its only software raid, but these days the CPU's dont even see it, and as long as you dont need to use it on an unsupported OS, all is good) , add to that a pair of Maxtor 300GB hard drives from MSY for $175 each, and you have 600GB of very fast storage for about $530.
If your laptop doesnt do firewire 800, chances are it will do the slower firewire 400, even if it doesnt have firewire at all, you can always just get a cheap firewire PCMCIA card like this for cheap. http://www.firewiredirect.com/firewire/products/cardbus.shtml _________________ Jeff Ferrara
