I might have found a source for relatively cheap 12v drill motors (<$25ea).
I came across these while looking on a powertools parts website called EReplacement Parts, where I found a large range of drill parts and prices.
The particular drill is the Ryobi HJP001K 3/8" Reversible 12V Cordless Drill.
Below is the parts diagram showing the motor and gearbox.
Base shipping (Economy 5-7day) is $32.11 up to 4 drill sets (motor+gearbox), then the shipping increase for every set you add there after. Having played with the international shipping calculator, it's better off buying in multiples of 4. For every multiple of 4 sets (up to 20 sets), you'll get a saving over all. I've done a quick break down table on the savings.
I'm going to order a pair to see how they are quality wise and to find out if they will be able to supply a few big bulk orders. If there is interest, maybe we could look at going a group buy of 20sets (<$500 to hopefully avoid customs and is lowest bulk besides 36xsets).

when you guys recieve the setup post on how postage was. seams better then drills locally considering no one uses the drill nicads anymore and its cheeper. might even be able to get something semidecent. _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.
Quality looks good. Gearboxes appear better than standard XU1 type drills they are also quite short too. Packing was great everything was bubble wrapped.
Negatives. The LHT screw is not included. Now that I look at the diagram a bit closer thats pretty obvious. Neither are the motor screws but they are just standard m3 screws which I have a heap of.
LHT screw appears to be out of stock but there is various other options from other models though the length of the screw varies.
I am pretty impressed for the price. Will definately buy again. I would recommend it to others.
Also total cost for 4 shipped drills was $104 iirc. Not $15 k-mart drills but better than anything else I have seen. And if you fry a motor or kill a gearbox should be able to just replace half the motor.

looks good. Interesting to see the motor compared to the xu1 or dse motors.
Anyone explored the postage costs with large orders to make sure things dont go crazy (as they can with OS orders)
if a group buy was organised i would be interested. If it happens pre 2nd week march could someone email me or grab me on msn? _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.
that one says ships to USA and canada. by the time you work around that if true things may look a lot more expensive landed. Also special order so may be questionable stock at times. Or site could just be wrong i do not have time to check. FAQ seams to sugest they ship OS and does not mention restrictions. _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.
