I have a sneaking feeling that it would be cheaper to build a voltage boost circuit, than it would to have a motor rewound to half the voltage.
If you really want to half the running voltage, I guess you could open it up, find the halfway point of the windings, cut them and then put them in parallel. It "should" work...

If you're looking at getting a motor rewound, it would be cheaper to buy a 12V motor for $200 - $300
Rewinding I think will start at around $150 (a cheap job) and go up from there. (It has been a few years since I've had a motor rewound.) _________________ It's all about the destruction.

How big would a voltage boost circuit be lol like the size of one of those 12-24v ones in dick smiths? _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

I don't have a Dick Smiths catalogue handy, but there are a few in jaycar. There is a kit which costs $45, is about the size of a hard drive and rated for 2 amps. You'd have to beef it up a bit.
What is stopping you from using a 24 volt battery bank? It would save you a lot of playing around.

Just an alternative thought.
Was going through the same idea a while ago to replace the 100 watt scooter motors in Pod, so tried a pair of car fan motors that where a similar size and had a detacheable backend (2 screws).
Found them to be not as efficient as the scooter motors so had started a mod to replace the bushes with bearings but havent really finished it but sounds like that might be another way to go.
You could probably pick up some of these motors for about 20 bucks I guess and probably use them as is as they would be around 100 watts at 12 volts.
Would offer one of mine but have modded the output shaft for a uni.
So it would pay to just go to the wreckers and get some fan motors.
The motors glen posted look like you have to bend some tabs to get inside but would suggest looking for some that dismantle with screws in case you decide to install bearings etc _________________ Bots that do not destroy you, only make you stronger.

Was going to use the motor in a robot and a voltage booster or 24v of batterys would have been too heavy or big for my design thats all.
Thats why i was thinking of re winding. _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

The motors that George tried, the NipponDenso heater blower motors or the Valiant series wound blower motors would work fine as a 12volt equivalent to a 100-watt, 24-volt scooter combo.
Naturally they suck more amps doing it. I don’t think the plain bearings vs. ball bearings a big enough factor to go to the trouble of rewinding armatures.
The PMDC is easily reversible, the series is pretty much blow up proof and has heaps of starting torque and if overvolted lots of revs.
At stock voltage the PMDC is probably torquer at its designed operating revs as in it spines a bigger fan and moves more air.
Like most things the answer depends a lot on the question and I don’t fully understand the question, a hint on the nature of the weapon and I might be able to find a suitable motor, IG mk 1 used a ford blower motor for its weapon as did Hemorrhage.

Im looking at building a vd3 style spinner.
12v 1-2 ratio maby 14.4v maby
The motor glen has is perfect and i have allready got onto him about that
LOL i should have put more info but at 11.39 at night while on the phone to g\f its hard to think lol
But yeah its made it easy now that glen happened to have the exact motor im looking for and knows what its off so i can go down to wreckers and get one when this one gets smashed rather then before i would have been walking aound wreckers for hours looking in cars for the right motor. _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

I have an extra Valiant one, it’s the non-factory air VH to CM Scoopie Do type motor if we are talking about the one in the for sale thread picture.

Yeah the one glen posted.
Is it the same? As in im wont have to change anything on my bot to put it in?
vh to cm? Car models?
Lol im no expert on cars _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

Its series wound and crimped together, 2 mounting studs sticking out the drive end.
1972 to 1982 aprox Australian built Valiants and Chryslers. Sedan coupe wagon ute etc.
I have a spare one if you wont to make an offer.

Sold, hopefully someone will organize a build day or practice get together before long otherwise we could post it.
That’s 2 turns of the motor to one on the disc I take it.
Should work fine, Scoopies motor was running at 24 volts and stalled repeatedly, the saw was attached to the shaft of the motor so it took a lot of punishment and it was only a direct hit from Orbit that damaged it.

Yep
Hopefully ill get more then 12v but to be sure im building it as if i can only spare 12v of batterys. _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

Anybody have experience of the 100w motors as a weapon motor ? Im planning to use it in a vert spinner powering a 2kg 25cm disk . I was thinking of a ratio of 2:1 or 3:1 , any idea of a good ratio ? _________________ If practice makes perfect and no one is prefect, Then why practice?
