Depending how good your tools are you could put ribs into the inside or outside of the holesaw and reduce some wall thickness in areas unlikely to take direct impacts

I thought about machining ribbing into it, but it's only 1.2mm thick, so weight loss is still minimal. Then again, when your dealing with this level of weight class, sanding the paint off probably saves a gram Smile

Just for reference, blue 89x30 shell is 81g, orange 75x27 shell is 58g.

Hmm for teeth could you cut slots in the shell then heat it with blowtorch and bend it down?

Might be possible, will see how I go with the saw blade teeth first. Smile. May even bend tabs to bolt the saw blade teeth too instead of brazing them to the shell Question

Woo, just when I was starting to think my HK order would never arrive, it does!

A pair of HobbyKing 8-10A BESC
A pair of Rhino 3S 360mAh LiPols
A pair of Turnigy Aerodrive XP 1826 2400Kv motors
A pair of Turnigy Plush 10A BESC
A Turnigy S3317M servo to use up the rest of the shipping weight
And bunch of foam wheels Laughing

Now have the parts to start hacking brushless for uMBX and to get Brainless running!

Decided to start on some weight reduction which was an excuse to actually use my milling machine for more then an expensive drill press and on a material harder then plastic Razz I haven't gotten around to buying any real tools for the mill other then a 3/5/10mm end cutters from mcjing. So I ended up g-clamping my year 12 metalwork project vice to the table and clamped the shell into that... Ghetto works untill I can buy a clamp set and a machine vice Smile

And yes, I forgot to correct the orientation of the photos before uploading... just flip your monitor on it's side...

Getting the weight issue under control Cool

Got the milling machine cranking and put 3x 10mm wide slots near the wheel, then put 8x 6mm slots in the other spots. This brought the shell down to 46g from 58g, I also still have enough space to put 4x 6mm slots to reduce some more weight.

Chucking all the bits on the scales, it's just under weight, I need to trim 3g off the second carbon fibre panel, put the accelerometer, LED, power transistor, the teeth and a wheel hub. So with a little more reduction, everything should fit.

I'll buy the fancy shit when I have it mounted on a bench and have a vice that has square jaws and isn't held on with G-Clamps Laughing

I really want me a rotary table, but so expensive... Crying or Very sad

Current scales measure in single grams Wink Were free too (AKA stole em off mum)

Just shrink wrapped a coke bottle over the rim... added 4g back onto it Rolling Eyes Even coke bottle adds significant weight to these things Laughing

Little Ego 2.0

Started on Little Ego 2.0 tonight.

Name: Little Ego 2.0
Weight: ~150gram
Length: 80mm
Width: 100mm
Height: 16mm
Drive: Pololu 100:1 gear motors
Controller: HK-T6A RX + Pololu B-328 controller
Battery: 2x Turnigy 2S 160mah LiPo
Weapon: Corona CS-929MG servo power lifter/flipper/clamper
Armour: HDPE monoblock chassis + 1mm carbon fibre.

I'm going with the construction technique of just milling slots for components and press fitting them into the chassis.

Still ghetto'ing it with the milling machine...

Couldn't get the G-clamps to material without them running into the Y-bed, so I just make a clamp kit out of some billet I have laying around Cool
