just need to file and grind certain parts of the frame to size and it shall be totally ready for welding up! i balanced all the bits together and heres what it looks like hehe.
will get some more 12g later and wire it all up for now. tempted to tear open the scooter motor and rewire it with 12g.. not sure how possible it is but will look into it _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

OMG It's even MORE boxy than my bots! Seriously, that is a really quick build, I hope it does great at Robowars. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

ahhaaa!! i have finally out done you at something !! XD
wiring is coming along well. ripping the wires off the IBC and doing them all at the correct length has made it all really neat. drives are now bolted down and i started trimming down the bearing blocks to their required height.
i got some magic sliders for the castors but they are far to low in diameter so i need to find something to build up its height with.. maybe some plastic rod of some kind. need to find some in any case. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Hey, what's the axle size on that drum? I'm going for 20mm axles on a 3Kg beater and some folks are saying it's still too small _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

That would depend on what the impact energy it is likely to have to absorb would be.
If you are designing a drum bot to deal out megajoules of energy per hit, then the axle that is going to cop the brunt of that would have to be huge. If it is a low speed lifting drum like MiniMower, you could get away with a much thinner shaft.
I dont remember what drive motor Glen is running in Visceral, but when Tim was running it, it only had a moderate power driving the drum, although I think it did win up fairly fast.
I'm sure that whatever size motor tim had powering the drum, you will probably exceed it..
One thing just occurred to me.. why do you prefer a beater design over a drum ?
It seems to me that a beater will have far more air resistance, and as a result will reach a lower maximum RPM (Kj) than a relatively smooth drum will for the same motor power. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

i would think a beater would have a greater chance of getting a bigger hit on some body but i do like the drums a bit better myself.
the axle on mine i think is 16mm stainless but theres only about 15mm of it unsupported on either side.
bretts right i have the same motor (just a 100w scooter motor. suprisingly i havent found anything more powerful for the same size that doesnt cost an arm and a leg). considering its 5kg worth it does spin up plenty fast enough and keeps going for the 3 minutes without getting that hot.
tims was 18v iirc this is 24v so should get a nice little boost there.
if you only have a tiny unsupported distance and little stub axles like plan g i dont see any reason why you couldnt get away with a good 30mm axle like i had on raiden. doenst weigh that much in such small quantities. i wouldnt think 20mm to be too small myself anyway. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

orded up a Whyachi 05 switch tonight. didnt want to be a victim to the annoying switch turning off syndrome.. and its small and doesnt need a lot of space for you to put a finger down inside to turn it on or off so win win.

frame welded up and ready to get everything bolted in. i put the drives, and IBC in for now, ill make a polycarb battery tray tommorow and bolt the weapon bearing blocks in.
was going to weld in the motor mount but realised i wouldnt be able to get the motor out if i did so thats mounted on a movable bracket now for tension.
jakes tig didnt like welding the teeth on the drum without spraying metal everywhere so ill do it on my mig dear god lol

So which bot will be the 'main contender' at Robowars? It would be really cool to see a 100% spinner team from NSW. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

I dont know what the current records are like, but statistically Spinners only occasionally finished up winning the events or even in the finals. They just break themselves too often to have good odds on surviving a whole event..
So go ahead KE junkies, plot your world domination.. but remember, those who live by the sword.. [/trashtalk] _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
