coool ive got some controllers for kang now.
i was going to make some huge switches but im so half assed now, and i hate making switch controllers so jeff gave us the old toggle switches that used to be in el bravo. ill probably change it over to use relays as well because i hear the switches burn out easy.
ive got it all setup on the old testbed which is about 6kg in weight and really has a lot of go in it for two drills at 12v.

woo tested out the little tester this morning.
the drive itself and battery setup is great. i tried 1x SLA driving it all and even when running the 12v drills at 12v its very fast, no doubt because its really light.
even with no weight over the front and 2x slas behind the driving wheels it turns well and reminds me alot of the aggressor in the way it sounds and drives.
the controllers at this point are terrible because the servos are shockingly mounted, and rock back and fowards so it doesnt like to stop when its moving lol.
the frame itself got started today as well. i basically mounted the relay and drives onto the base and tommorow ill probably have a go at mounting a couple of more things. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

hmm not good at all.. i just took apart one of the drills to make it a super drill and it seems as though one of the pins has vanished... i literally opened up the box and the gear was sitting in there with no pin...
so i tried to take out a pin from another gearbox which ironically i cannot get out no matter how hard i try, even when i blast the base with a gas torch.
but on a lighter not i did find a big ass fire extinguisher from sims metal today, and i managed to piece together my old compressor. so ill be fitting a 775 size motor into it right now

#*&^??!
well i think ill have to pack up kang for a few more weeks until i can either A) figure out how to replace the pin in the gearbox or
B) get a new gearbox.

well jeffs giving us a shattered gearbox along with a few drill packs so i can get kang happening in a while.
in the quest to try make everything myself on this robot i think ive found some great little bearing holders! you know those little sleeves that go over the drill motors? well basically they fit perfectly inside one, and if you whack a hose clamp over them and put in a bit of super glue around the bearing, its pretty well bullet proof. SCORE
so i might get this drum mech happening soon. interesting to say at least it will be.
EDIT - just lined everything up and i think ive hit two birds with one stone. the bearings are in line with the motor mounts so im going to extend the box section all the way up and down the bot and the motors/bearings will clamp onto this. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

right i got bored as hell AGAIN on my day off from arena building, so i got to work on kang again.
i noticed that the pins in the first stage of the drill gearbox are the same as the ones in the second stage just a couple of mm shorter, so with a hammer and center punch i whacked out a pin and glued it in, so that is fixed to some extent..
i got all the hose clamps for the bearing and motor mounts, so ive cut them out and clamped everything together. nice and ridgid. ill have to get some more m6 bolts to mount everything and ill have it driving around.
im going to go get a piece of L bracket and two more hose clamps to finish off the motor mounts, then i must bolt the box section down to the base and i cant start to drive this base plate around.
i reckon itll be really fun to drive. with about 5kg behind the wheels and the 2kg drum up the front. should drive like the aggressor (that was a cool bot.)
the only thing im really in doubt of is how to mount the side armour to the base, i know how to do it on the rear of the bot, but the sides are a little tricky. i think i might use some U-bracket where the L bracket is on the front and then bolt that onto the box section.
ive also decided id like to get some big ass rubber plugs, i think they call them belleville washers or something and put them around the frame to shock mount it all.
now ill give yeh a little run down on how i made them because i know angus was looking to build some controllers, basically just cut out the 6mm lexan plate in the shape i needed. then i used a 12mm spade bit to make the holes for the switches. they just have a threaded top on them so you just put them through the hole and tigthen them up with the nut provided and thats that done!
you also have to drill a hole in the switch itself for some wire to go through, as you can see in the picture. i think jeff used a paper clip here.
then for the servo cutouts i just drilled 4 holes in each corner of the square that needed to be cut out for the servos to fit into. the holes have to be big enough for the jigsaw blade to fit into, then i just made straight cuts between the holes and i got a perfect hole the servos just droped into. NOTE i also had to cut out a little slot for the servo wires to fit through, as the mounting hole for the servos was incredibly tight.
then i had to drill the holes for the servo mounting bolts with a 3mm drill bit and then it was all finished.

well i made some battery mounts today. what i did was bend a piece of threded rod into an upside down U-shape, then bolted them over the batteries. so its like a gentle clamp.
better yet i had a brainwave about the design, i had it upside down drilling some holes, when it rocked back onto the other end of the base and it looked like a huge wedge with a drum out the front, redrum style. sweet!
as you can tell i didnt go with the inverted design because to do it would require me to add a little flappy wedge to the rear of the lid anyway, so i figured a more conventional layout would be easier.
i still have to add details to the switch controllers, but the main thing is there is no visible weapon motor, which is good, because the current plan is to mount a motor inside the drum. which will be quite interesting, but i reckon itll cut off so much weight its not funny. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Damn you n00b I was going to try mounting the weapon motor in a drum, I've mainly worked out how to fit in a winch motor and some gearing too _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

lol take that,
what im planning is integrating a series wound motor into the drum, and having a normal shaft on the other side. then ill just use two isolated pieces of steel on either side of the drum with brushes running against them, positive on one side, negative on the other _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

hmm had a play around with andrews winch today,
850kg at 12v sounds like some damn tasty torque! andrew was holding onto one end and i the other, no way a person could possibly stop it.
i think other andrew his dibs on them both, but if i come across them again ive got some good plans for an axe bot because the winch has a clutch.
basically when theres a knob that the gear attaches to, and when this is all the way inside the drum the shaft seems to reduce in size, so it wont spin the drum. so what im thinking is i can use this to wind back a spring loaded hammer, than have a servo yank the shaft out some and this will send the axe flying.. maybe one day _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

no way a servo could pull that thing out dude
keep it simple stupid (KISS) _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

i was thinking of taking out the split pin so you wouldnt have to turn it, just yank it out.
but if the servo cant cut it, lifty or crushy bot it shall be, provided i can get another winch that is,
