daniel's flipper (vic) had a small ram powered by a fire extinguisher bottle i believe. Though it was so big he had to mount it on the top of the bot...

A 1.5kg CO2 cylinder holds 1.5kg of liquid co2 and has an internal volume of 2.25 litres.

Ok then im guessing that filling it to 145 psi of air will make it lighter?

Dude i have no idea. I mean like since he said it can hold that much... I thought that empty it has to be less than a kg. So if i filled it with air.. It would be less than 1.5 kg. Im wrong, right?

Woody, the tank is a 1.5kg powder FE, not CO2.

The tank will easily hold 200psi of compressed air.

As Viggy is a newcomer, and of young age, I believe it is a much safer idea for him to play with low pressure air first before even considering CO2. Although the suggestion of a simple box rammer has a lot of merit to it Smile

EDIT: Photo is a bunch of gear I'm prepared to send Viggy for free (except CO2 fill station).
There is a 5/2 valve that Woody (IIRC) to Trent to me and now to Viggy.
QEV is the same Razz
Few random rams, fittings, tank, tubing and such.

My idea was to use the my old 3.5oz CO2 to feed through a regulator (150psi), through the 5/2 valve, through the QEV, which filled up the tank (as a buffer), when the pressure was dropped from the input of the QEV, it fed directly into the ram. The ram was going to be then vented on the spare port of the 5/2 valve.

Couldn't ever come up with a design I liked using the gear, so it got boxed.

Viggy,

Take the free gift...there's 90% of a pneumatic system in the pic...get a small compressor...connect it all up and have a play.
START AT A LOW PRESSURE...say 20 psi.

Cheers Woody.

An empty CO2 tank weighs X KG'S...when "filled" with liquid CO2 it weighs X plus Y KG'S of liquid CO2.

Real World Example ... My 2kg co2 bottle weighs 2.8kg's empty ...it holds 2kg's of liquid co2.. so full it weighs 4.8kg's.

It's internal volume in litres is the weight of liquid co2 in kg's divided by 0.666 = 2.0 / 0.6666 = 3 litres.

A litre of compressed AIR @ 10 bar will weigh ...IF I've got my sums right!... 13 grams.

O i get it now! i really appreciate this aaron! So aaron whats the total weight of it all? I need to calculate postage or maybe you can if you have the time Wink okay. When i can get a speed controller(either hacked escs or sabertooth) i will start off as a box design. Then around 1-3 mnths later ill start to convert/add in a pneumatic flipper. Sound good to you guys?

@aaron: if your setup was to have your extinguishe as a buffer then wouldnt you need a valve on top of the extinguisher or was it like a regular pipe/T-pipe.
Edit: did you even create the setup though?

Is there a switch in the trigger type controllers so i can activate a solenoid/switch?

The DX6i is fine ...you just need a receiver that failsafes properly.

The BR6000 or AR500

Switch can be on any spare channel

I was going to take the tank to the local gas shop and get them to find me a brass plug to thread into it that I could drill and tap to suit the fitting I put onto the QEV.

I'll get the weights of it later today.

It would be great if you could still do that but it dosent matter if you dont want to or dont have the time to. Ill just see of i can find any valve that would fit in it. Does it have a regular thread? I went to sidetracked today and met team rotwang who let me have a go at driving pyrobot and a lightweigt. It was fun! Thanks gary:) he also gave me some great tips as well. And i shouldnt forget shreddy. He showed me the insides of his bot and also gave some tips

Does anyone have a valve for the 1.5kg fire extinguisher? I need to be able to pump it up and have a way to connect it through a pipe to the 5/2valve.
Edit: if i wanted to charge ni cad pack from drills, would i need to add a balance plug or can i just charge via this charger? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7028

Viggy,

The tank is a powder extinguisher and the thread is probably M24 * 1.5mm....I have NO idea where you'd get a valve for it.
You might however be able to find a hydraulic fitting to screw in.

No balance plugs needed with NiCads.

Ah thanks woody. I get the M24 part but does the 1.5mm mean how many mm between thread?
