Here might be a reason to get a Mac now Smile

quote:
The prize for creating a method to boot Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac has been won. Contest organizer Colin Nederkoorn announced on his website this morning that the total prize money of $13,854 will be awarded to two California men he referred to as “narf” and “blanka,” and added that he has tested the open-source booting method and says it works. Although Nederkoorn had slight reservations about the validity of the technique earlier this week, he’s now convinced. Nederkoorn told Gizmodo, “Drivers are still a problem, but the basic work is done. We now have a fantastic base for an open-source EFI boot loader for the Intel Mac.”

How does this technique work? “You create a customized Windows XP install CD and load a special EFI bootloader. Then the magic happens behind the scenes to make everything run,” Nederkoorn said.

Well they've had OS X and Tiger running on X86 systems for a while IIRC, so it's not hard to bash some more heads together and go the other direction by putting XP on a MACIntel X86 system.

Yeah it's hard to say, depends on really how good it is, and how much it costs...

Thats It.. People think Apple invented the Ipod. There were Hard Drive based MP3 players that were just as functional and easy to use as the Ipod around 2 years before Apple floated their little box.

They just didnt have the Apple Marketing Machine behind them, so only in-the-know-geeks were using them. Little Johnny was still toting his CD bag about.

Apple rarely invents anything. They just take an idea, spiff it up, polish off the rough edges user-wise and spend a fortune color-coordinating and graphic designing the box it comes in, and the mac-heads seize upon it like its the holy grail, and write reviews about the "user experience" and the orgasmic joy of the unwrapping the box process.

If the product gives the Apple Fanboys an excuse to strap something futuristic looking to their body and parade around in pubic like starred sneetches http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sneetches_and_Other_Stories
, then it will sell.

I read the THG article this morning:

http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/01/09/apple_announces_iphone/

I know I won't be trading in my Nokia for an Apple.... I have yet to see a phone company make phones to take as much abuse as a Nokia. My last one fell off the roof of my car at 60km/h, put it back together and it worked. A mate of mine reversed over his Nokia 1100 and it still worked... Another mate had his Nokia vibrated off the work bench into a bucket of sump oil...

My current Nokia surfs the net, emails, bluetooths, mp3's, takes 1.3MP photos, and plays videos....

I'll wait and see how nifty this Apple is... will need a lot of persuasion to ditch my Nokia Cool

Oh No, the IBM villagers are out again with their pitchforks and flames.
Oh dear. Lucky no one takes them serious. Only fools blame the tools.
