About 9A. Should be able to get about 20 mins out of a 3Ah battery.

A cheap and quick alternative for electromagnets (maybe less powerful though) are trailer brake magnets:
My spring flipper Total Recoil will have an automatic "flip and reload" cycle controlled by a Teensy 3 microcontroller. Automatic loading can be enabled after load-in by using one of the switches on the remote. A trigger on the remote will cause it to release, after which it will automatically load again if the auto load switch remains on.
I'm going to say that this doesn't count as semi-autonomous as defined by rule 7 since it only reloads the weapon autonomously, only ever releasing it in response to a trigger from a human. Therefore I won't necessarily put any special lights on it (though I might if I get time) apart from the obligatory power light.

That sounds correct. However the teensy 3 will need to have failsafe. It should not attempt to reload or fire if loses signal should remain in whatever state it is currently in. There should also be a way to leave it uncocked at the end of the fight if possible.
Yep. It will be connected to the radio with a single CPPM bus connection and will also perform the drive mixing. As soon as the radio stops emitting CPPM it will be programmed to halt all motor activity.
In the case that the spring is left tensioned at the end of the match I can switch off auto reload and then fire the flipper before anybody enters the arena. I will also have a manual release procedure (stand on the flipper and kick the catch).
