Ant weights - Team NMO - Vic
So I've started collecting parts for my first ant weight.
It will most likely be a horizontal spinner, with either a titanium blade or small saw blade.
For fun I've tried 3d printing weapon bars but I doubt they will be strong enough.
The first thing that struck me is the compleatly different weight ratio compared to feathers.
I used to allow 1-3 kg for batteries, electronics and drive, but it's looking more like 80-100 grams for a ant.
I've still got more bits on the way but here's what I've got so far.

Turningy 1612 brushless outrunner and esc

So had a busy couple of days building.
Already need to redesign the main body to allow more space for wiring and ancor points for the motor covers.
Overall Im happy with the first build, its 125grams, with the 3d printed weapon bar and no lid, (lid printing now.) So I should have weight points left to go with a titanium bar.

Its using what they call a prop saver, its an O ring stretched between 2 bolts,
Thy come on some of the smaller brushless motors.

there designed to lessen the shock on impact and save the prop from breaking,
I am hoping it will protect the motor shaft from bending, although it is also one of my concerns as Im worried the O ring will break

Chances are that the blade will pop off on the first hit, particularly if it meets a vertical spinner. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

Ah, so that's how those are supposed to work! A couple of the motors I have came with those, I didn't quite get how they were meant to be used.

I used to have cable ties instead of the o-ring. Didn't have too many issues
