In other news, the robot club is go, so I'm wondering if they'll get some half useful stuff in the NSW warehouse for next year, and if I can just rock up and pick it up. _________________ ( •_•)

Made a small purchase from HK just over a week ago using a credit card. The payment shows on my visa account, but HK is saying that it is unpaid. Dropped them an email today and am sure they will fix it. From now on, I will pay by PayPal. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

you have more protection through your CC
ring the card company they will generally be more than happy to reverse the transaction.
paypal your at the whim of an unregulated private company. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

It depends who you want to be protected from - a credit card is the best protection from rip-off sites that don't deliver. On the other hand Paypay is better at protecting you from hacking and dishonest employees who skim your card. I also found that Paypal is a little cheaper than my bank as they generally have a better exchange rate and no "currency conversion fee".
My M.O. is to use Paypal where its cheaper and I trust vendor but not the shopping cart system, and to use a card for unknown and local sites - its a judgement call you have to make for each vendor.
I have never looked into it, but since you generally pay your Paypal account via a credit card, you might have the best of both options by using Paypal.

Hobby King got back to me. They have found the payment and my order is shown as paid, processing. All the products are still in stock.
Mistakes happen. The important thing is how quickly this issue was resolved. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
