KitBot motivation is probably @ its highest that it will be for a while so thought I would document a bit of the progress to date and a wrap up from the event.
So the current incarnation of the kit uses Servos, AAAs and has a flipper weapon with ali shell.
I am not sure what people thought of the kits from the Serial Space event but I think we can say my ali shells were a bit rough and there was a few issues. But I think it was worth binging along and they were a bit of fun to fill in gaps.
Current plan is to tweak some of the design, I think I need to get rid of as much double sided tape as possible, things slowly come unstuck which was an issue on the day. Not sure about servos either. Would really like kit to be able to stand up against spinners and I had to replace servos after ever spinner fight pretty much.
Well as we discussed Ive got a friend who's keen on one _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam

I would be interested to try leaving the ears on the drive servos and bolting them into the aluminium. It would be more work, but a stronger finish.
You could also try the wheels that Daniel uses. They survive against spinners. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

yeah leave the ears on but just sink two bolts into the base plate and use washers to clamp them down. basically.
For the frames i reckon a good project for you would be to mill out an aluminium mould of it for lack of a better term, then just cut out a square of ali and bash it to shape over the 'mould' and cut the bottom off like a stamped part.
Other option would be to make a mould and possibly cast a heap of fibreglass shells.
Was just looking at using Motor drivers from HXT900s on LP BotBitz motors. Short answer is No.
It sort of works but anything about 7V and its pretty terrible. I was measuring 100C+ on the silicon when running @ 7.2V so yeh I think 2S is absolute max for servos.
Anyone have photos of Kitbot 1 after Glen gave it a nose job? Or any others from the day? _________________ Steven Martin

Go for titanium. You could always have two levels of kit. One spinner class, one non-spinner class. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

Replace the nose section with 2mm aluminium. It's cheaper / lighter then titanium. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
Rebuilt Kitbot 1. It isn't a feasible design for kit but its ok for demo bot. Will try 2-4 over next few days. Ant caps work pretty well but they are heavy.

Or make a positive mould and shrink wrap some coke bottle over it. Couple of layers of coke bottle with a little epoxy between them would be moderately tough and still light. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
Glen was going to try that. It is a good idea. Might be easiest way to cast shells. _________________ Steven Martin

yeah i tried it and it would've worked, i just didn't have them time to perfect it or make a real mould
the mould needs to have flat sides that extend down a fair way and the bottle can get screwed to that then trim it all off once its shrunk. Haven't had a reason to try it again but its on the list. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

I was thinking a ali part which sits inside a bottle cylinder and then it gets shrunk around it. _________________ Steven Martin
