Well time to put my money where my mouth is and try out some of my controllers in my own bot.
I rebuilt most of the wEdge bot the sarv. It will be my first platform for the feather event I am also hoping to have a flipper as well. For the moment we shall refer to it as naked turtle (have you ever seen a naked turtle?)
wEdge bot will be using a 2in1 Tz85a (if I can get this to work) and will be running a 6S A123 battery. _________________ Steven Martin

wEdge bot has a wedge and is pretty well ready to run as long as it gets a ESC. I have plenty of sabertooths lying around if it comes to it.
I am still thinking about ways to setup this flipper. I need to program a relay controller for triggering the solenoid which shouldn't be a problem and I need to sort out the battery I want to use for it. I am thinking I will need at least 6S to trigger solenoid but I am also considering a separate battery for drives and weapon.

Heh, I see a Gorilla-Pod in that picture.
Like it ? I found ours to be very useful for getting that perfect close up angle shot and occasionally sticking the camera to things up high _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
Yeh its been handy I just grabbed two cheapys and they arent really stiff enough to hold anything big. I grabbed 2 as they were like $3 and then taped them together. One holds the iphone and the other holds it up.
Yay ordered plastic for 3D printer. Hopefully here by friday. _________________ Steven Martin

Hey Steve ,we probably got a full size tripod you can have. it would be lame but fine for documenting like this.

Ok so I finally worked out how I am going to do naked turtle.
Firstly it will still be a low pressure flipper however it will be running a R134a propellant. This is a non-flammable HFC which is used in airhorns. I had tossed up using butane and making it a flame thrower as well but this will just cause too many issues.
The pressure of R134a is ~90psi - 150psi depending on temperature. Which unfortunately takes me a bit out of the range of coke bottle but will be fine with fire extinguisher reservoir.
The can is about $20 and 300grams so should get me an event. Just grabbed one off ebay. _________________ Steven Martin

wow, you can just buy cans of R134a on ebay?
The stuff the fridges my work sells uses is R500 isobutane very flammable _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam

Yes you can. You can buy it for air horns for marine or safetly applications.
AFAIK its just not widely used as its a greenhouse gas. But I doubt my robot will contribute much to global warming. _________________ Steven Martin

i kinda like that it's contributing in some way though
its more manly somehow - like a car with an excessively large engine _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam

You could also try a smaller
CO2 cylinder
in Naked Turtle.
That would fit your idea of making the robot smaller. You could also use a much smaller reservoir to save volume in the robot. You only need 2.5 - 3 times the volume of the ram displacement. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
