Jaemus and I will have a go at throwing together something for the next event. Probably just use all the spare parts I've got lying around. So yeah Angus you build one, and you'll have at least one competitor.

There is no weapon weight limit or anything like that. The rule was 50% by weight MDF excluding batteries and electronics.

So you can put ~6kg worth of steel into the bot however you see fit.

The only rule was that you can't have a metal frame. No metal bolted to metal. Might want to put something there about excluding in the weapon itself.

If you go much heavier than 13.6kg drill motors cant handle it.

In the origional plan we were also running SLA's and the batteries were excluded from the weight.

As Ben found out on Sunday, SLA's don't seem to cut it any more, even for wedges. Its likely that Nicads will the lowest tech batteries.

Are we fussed about the total weight for the fist few trials? I have a few boxes of parts, but they are more for lightweights. I'm looking at 100W scooter motors and Colsons for drive and fan motor for weapon - thats about 10Kg before I put any MDF around it...

Quick question about the support for a spinner weapon. Can the two supports holding a spinning weapon in place on either side of the shaft be joined together with metal?

"Quick question about the support for a spinner weapon. Can the two supports holding a spinning weapon in place on either side of the shaft be joined together with metal?"
If you mean a shaft on a vertical or horizontal spinner then the bearing at each end should be connected to MDF.
No METAL frame is allowed to hold weapon ends as one peace. Ie the bearing blocks are mounted to the MDF.
This means what you are attacking (MDF bot) is as good as your weapon mounts are (MDF),,so you must mount your weapon wisely other wise it might just get ripped out. This will stop any one getting annihilated to quickly....

what will the KE limit actually be if we are going to have it?

bort and i worked on a few designs earlier today. went into some interesting concepts, but will be putting together something fairly simple for starters, which has been mostly drawn up now.

not to be disagreeable, but not being able to have a simple, easy spinner seems to defy the points made about why this class is needed, in the first post

a simple easy spinner is the way that i would probably go as it will be easy for a new builder like me to do
