Laughing The polish is great as a mold release agent; it is thick enough to fill in the seams in the mold as well - I love the stuff!

*curvey new armour*
Does that mean you're scrapping the current armour before the robot has even competed? Shocked
BTW that pic is somewhat creepy, looks like the preperations of some sort of hip replacement surgery or something. Laughing
Good luck with the wheels! Smile

Me too, any bets on how much urethane ends up in my hair? Laughing The pouring won't get done until tomorrow, as work has interfered with tonight. If the first batch turns out half decent, I will make some more molds and convert Jolt to wider wheels. then do the wheels for NIB, the sumo bot.

I hardly have time to make the wheels for myself - happy to share everything I know about making them of course.

Wheely good progress! Rolling Eyes
The first set of wheels have been cast and they are looking pretty good. There were a few small air bubbles trapped on the bottom of the moulds that I can avoid by stiring the plastic as its poured. Using the syringes to pour the plastic accurately worked fairly well; there was no spilling but the pastic was so thick it just dribbled out and each wheel took minutes to fill. Next time, I will drill out the end of the syringe and glue in a larger tube.

The urethane is much harder than expected; it is rated at 60 Shore and is more like a Colson wheel. Still very grippy but not like the original Whyachi wheels. I was expecting the tread to wear down very quickly, but these wheels should last some time.

Progress:
The new wheels are installed on Scissorhands:

They fit perfectly but I am beginning to think about scrapping them and starting over. The Urethane is Shore 60A hardness, while Jake's wheels are around Shore 50 and the Whyachi wheels are Shore 40, which is what I really wanted - there is a big freaking difference between the hardnesses! I can get a plasticiser additive to soften up the urethane, so pealing off the first molding attempt and going softer is my next step - probably not before the next event though.

The final jobs are the hoops and the electronics, so a week's work should see Scissorhands ready for the next event Twisted Evil.

I was just thinking about that - I might have to take a few more photos and do a tutorial. BTW: those plastic hubs look like winners; 10 grams lighter than the aluminium version and the hub should last longer than the tread. If I get to re-cast the tread a 2nd time before the hub is worn out, then I am well ahead of buying commercial ones. The next hubs will be for 45mm wide wheels; too much grip is hardly enough Laughing

A cost and source list of the materials needed would be cool too... I just trudged through 28 pages of your build thread and found nothing, but I know you did post about it onces Confused

Just for you, I started writing the guide; its two pages already without any photos or diagrams. Don't expect it to be finished for a week or two.
