Around 95-98% of you motor torque depending on tooth size, pulley weight, rotational velocity etc.
Just a tip, if you are going to buy timing belts from a power transmission company, buy the metric version instead of the imperial. The metric version has deeper teeth & can transmit more torque for a given width when compared to the imperial version.

Home made belt
I have some rubber tube i am trying to make into a belt.
I have tryed to put rubber glue into both ends of the tube and then a peace of rubber solid tube the size of the hole in the big rubber tube im trying to connect then let it dry over night but it dosent hold at all.
Dose anyone know of any way i can join rubber tube together to make a solid belt?
Or any way of makeing a stretchie belt that keeps tension if the pullys move or so i dont have to have stupid tensioners in my bot? _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

ive tried attaching belt end to end numerous times on cobras tread. totally unsuccessful.
ive used sikaflex, silastic, contact adhesive and araldite as well as 5 minute epoxy.
Hvae tried something similar when making tracks for T34 and retreads for Pinscher. What I generally do apart from glue is sew the rubber together. I know ity sounds wooosy to sew but it does ad strength when used witha glue as well. Also I cut the rubber ends on angles to give me a bigger surface area to glue onto.
Have done this with timimg belts as well using pins and glue.
So my advice is dont just use glue, use the glue to hold something else on the belt.
Am about to so something similar witha set of wheels. Have rubber strips that need to be joined to make a wheel so will be sewing the rubber with wire from a coat hanger and then glueing the ends and probably bolting it as well.
Glue on its on can suck but when used with something else it can work a treat _________________ Bots that do not destroy you, only make you stronger.

question on belts -
is there a minimum diameter of belt i should be using, i only want a 1:1 transmission, but is it unreasonable to have like two 15mm diameter pulleys etc? _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

smallest we run is 30mm i think
might be 25
and we have fairly thing belts
at 24V the belts get quite hot/warm too
(not as hot as the tyres when ripping it up on the road w00tage) _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Well a bigger pully doesn't flex the belt as much as a smaller pully and gives you a lot more surface area for gripping and transmitting your torque from the power source. I think 40mm Aluminium pullies would be a suitable size IMHO.
at this size you might want to look at multi rib v belts
smaller v's but many of them
the belt stretches and compresses less going roung the pully then _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Does anyone know how good round belts would be for a drive transmission. Do you think they would slip to easy? Or not?

ive seen round belts used for spinning weapon drives and drive belts on smaller beetleweights, not sure i would use them for featherweight drives.

question, on the axe bot the chains are way way to long and even after making a tensioner for it im still not happy. id much rather the chain just be shorter with a simpler tensioner...
