titanium at a weight to defense ratio of 3.865:1
titanium is... but then you need to come back down to reality and realise you need a waterjet mill or lathe and a bottomless wallet to be able to machine it and pay for it.
stainless is really tough as well and my 5083 aluminium is okay (not as good as 6061, 2024, 7075)
also gotta look at how you use the armour too, angles make it more effective...
its cheap, super light, and I have yet to damage any air armour yet!

If you can be bothered making it, Laminated (glued together layers) armour of different materials would probably give you a good mix of different beneficial properties like impact absorption, rigidity and surface hardness, but it would be a pain to fabricate.
Thin Stainless over Polycarb, Rubber over Steel, thin titanium over wood. stuff like that. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
