Is having design competitions for bots to do a specific task a good idea? |

I think he means "What are they ?"
An idea dreamed up by bored American Bot Builders to use the spare Heavyweight Bot parts they had lying around, and probably inspired by someone riding around on top of their heavyweight bot..
Basically a baby electric Go-Kart.
I forget the rules, I think it has to fit in a 4ft x 4ft sqaure, which usually means the builders are perched precariously on top with various body parts sticking out resulting in amusing spills'n'thrills as they try and race around and negotiate obstacles/ramps etc.
Personally I think its a silly idea, because as long as the goal is racing (ie, who comes first), then they're just going to gradually get faster and faster as people put E-Teks and other ultra-powerful motors in their Nar Karts which means you'll be more and more likely to eventually get someone seriously injured when they come off their Nar-KArt at 50km/hr into a pole.
But then again, the Americans will race Bar-Stools, Lawn-Mowers, Caravans and just about anything else you can sit on, so its not surprising.
They're probably fun as long as they're kept in the spirit of fun, but as soon as people start "getting competitive", I reckon people are going to get hurt.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
