Pimp 2 is the one with the 2:1 gear up on the EV, though I think he's gone 1:1 now. Can't find a pic, but it looks a bit like Vortex, only the blade sticks out the front rither than the front and the top.
Omicron's in bits at the minute, so I can't do a pic - just imagine SoW from a distance... though I swear that's not what it's supposed to look like
Ed's retired Storm Vortex... waiting to see what he comes up with next
Look Jimmy I wouldn't have complained about a 15kg weight limit when i built my first robot which was at least 14kg.
I would suggest stepping back and taking a look at your robot. Maybe start the frame from scratch again. Thats what i have done and you usually learn a lot from the first time aound.
It easy to build a robot and then ask for the weight to be changed but what about someone else who does everything possible to make the weight and then it is changed. Its really just not fair. Rules is Rules. U built it time for u to fix it an maybe make it better than before. _________________ Steven Martin

Just revisiting Brett's tip about chopping boards.
I looked at two different packs in Woolies today and they both said "Polyproplyene". not Polyethylene or UMHW. Perhaps some boards are different, but polypropylene is fairly different to UMHW. It seems to be quite a bit stiffer and is not rated as impact resistant, a key requirement for us. While it did quite well on Hellbringer, don't expect ALL chopping boards to be cheap UHMW. Come to think of it, it the chopping boards did OK on Hellbringer, how much tuffer would it have been with the tougher PE plasic? _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

Polyprop kicks ass. Omicron's armoured top and bottom with it, as are a lot of feathers and heavies over here.

It's a p***poor picture, but, this is omicron in profile after a shot from pimp2's disc. You can just about see how the half-inch polyprop top sheet (at the bottom) has gouged, but not taken any damage (unlike the aluminium - so the chassis stayed braced together.

Why was that bot banned?
And what is the legal limit on 12kg bots how much over do we allow?
and will that be taken away later and we have to lighten our bots _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

there is no limit on 12kg robot weapons, that are legal (no flames, corrisives etc).
marayong should be totally immune soon as jeff has plans to build up the main panels to 9mm and lower panels to 12mm thick lexan. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

kevlar is kevlar (unless it has some other non dupont or dow corning owned name IE aramid)
where all that vac bagging (the shrink thingie that was mentioned) and the like comes into it is the resin or epoxy that is used.
short version
the harder the epoxy is to use the better it is.
we used standard phenolic resin for our entire bot.
yes the epoxies are stronger but they are much more expensive and in our application we didnt need much in the way of matrix strength.
we used the kevlar because we wanted something that would work well in the foam sandwich to distribute loads hitting the middle of that panel (over our electrics) out to the motor mounts, while at the same time would be a bitch to cut and very tough. kevlars main selling point (apart from being 5 times stronger (tensile strength) than steel (by weight) is that it is very abrasion resistant. (it is also very abrasive) thats what stopped scoopy do's saw. to cut the raw fiber you need to specially sharpen sissiors (or just butcher it out).
Basically apart from that its the same as fiberglass (except its cool and yellow).

Why are the weight classes
Hobbyweight 6 kg
Featherweight 12 Kg
Lightweight 25 Kg
When the overseas classes are
15 pound
30 pound
60 pound
What if people from overseas start comeing over they would be overweght?
Shouldent we be 7kgs 13kgs and 27kgs then?
If im right and its 2.2pounds to 1kg _________________ Tim Team Reaper.
