Commercial Speed Controllers

PURPOSE BUILT ROBOT CONTROLLERS

There are several different commercial speed controllers avalible, most of which are based on the
OSMC (Open Source Motor Controller) design. These are outlined in brief below:

RoboWars Integrated Bot Controller (IBC)

Robowars IBC

Avalible From: RoboWars, The RMP
Intended Weight Class : HobbyWeight to FeatherWeight, although it has been used
successfully in lightweights with active cooling

Specs:
Brushed or Brushless: Brushed
Dual or Single Channel: Dual
BEC: Yes
Onboard Mixing: Yes
3rd Channel Weapon Output: Yes, Type = 12V relay coil out, 300ma Max
Current Rating : 50A Continuous / channel (1XIRF1405 per leg, 8 in total)
Current Limiting: No
Temp Limiting: No
Dimensions: 130mm Long x 55mm Wide x 30mm Tall
Robots in Australia using this controller: Verticle Limits, Kang

General Comments
Dual Channel controller designed by Brett Paulin from the OSMC refrence design.
Assembelled in Melbourne.
IBC is best protected when installed in a 140x55x40 ABS box from Jaycar Electronics.
Installing a 40mm 12v PC fan mounted above the MOSFets will allow the controller to work at it's full potential.

Robot Solutions RS80D

Robot Solutions RS80D

Avalible From: Robot Solutions, The RMP
Intended Weight Class : FeatherWeight to HeavyWeight

Specs:
Brushed or Brushless: Brushed
Dual or Single Channel: Dual
BEC:Yes
Onboard Mixing: Yes
3rd Channel Weapon Output: Yes, OSMC type output (to drive MOSFETs through the HIP4081 driver IC)
Current Rating : 80A Continuous / channel (2XIRF1405 per leg, 16 in total)
Current Limiting: Yes, Variable via pot from 1A to off (current limiting removed)
Temp Limiting:Yes, Fixed - will throttle down the current from 100% to off depending on temp.
Dimensions:
Robots in Australia using this controller: BoB, Orbit

General Comments
Dual Channel controller designed by David Moller from the OSMC refrence design

Robot Power Sidewinder

Robot Power Sidewinder

Avalible From: Robot Power The RMP
Intended Weight Class : FeatherWeight to HeavyWeight

Specs:
Brushed or Brushless: Brushed
Dual or Single Channel: Dual
Onboard Mixing: Yes
3rd Channel Weapon Output: No
Current Rating : 80A Continuous / channel (2XIRF1405's per leg, 16 in total)
Current Limiting: Yes, 10A to 130A
Temp Limiting:Yes, cutoff at 93^o C
Dimensions:
Robots in Australia using this controller: Subliminal

General Comments
This controller has no BEC. The manufacturer recommends that bots using lower voltages that might dip below 12V should install a BEC or seperate controller battery pack (same AH size as a reciever battery). If the voltage to the Sidewinder goes below 12V, it will probably reset. The case is very strong and reasonably dust proof, although it is hard to take apart once wiring has been installed.

IFI Victor 883

IFI Victor 883

Avalible From: The RMP
Intended Weight Class : HobbyWeight to HeavyWeight

Specs:
Brushed or Brushless: Brushed
Dual or Single Channel: Single
BEC: No
Onboard Mixing: N/A
3rd Channel Weapon Output: N/A
Current Rating : 60A Continuous (Unknown)
Current Limiting: No
Temp Limiting: No
Dimensions:
Robots in Australia using this controller: Hellbringer, Avenger, Sidewinder

General Comments
Built for the IFI First robotics competition
Usually required an inline booster if used with conventional radio equipment (to drive the opto's). Make sure to install cable ties on the FET heatsinks as per this guide - IFIVictorModification.

IFI Victor 885

IFI Victor 885

Avalible From: The RMP
Intended Weight Class : HobbyWeight to Super-HeavyWeight

Specs:
Brushed or Brushless: Brushed
Dual or Single Channel: Single
BEC: No
Onboard Mixing: N/A
3rd Channel Weapon Output: N/A
Current Rating : 120A Continuous
Current Limiting: No
Temp Limiting: No
Dimensions: 70mm wide, 56mm long 31mm tall without fan ~
Robots in Australia using this controller: King Cobra, Jolt

General Comments
Built for the IFI First robotics competition
Usually required an inline booster if used with conventional radio equipment (to drive the opto's)
Twice the continuous current of the victor 883. Make sure to install cable ties on the FET heatsinks as per this guide IFIVictorModification.
