Don't build a bloody spinner then As much as I love my spinners (I really do miss having some destructive capabilities), they seem to be the cause of a lot of our problems... _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

anyone can build a wedge. not as easy to build a spinner that will stay togeather
That is the challenge I like and seek. _________________ It's all about the destruction.
the fact that sidetrack built an arena and we battle in an arena in someones backyard is irrelevant.........hell ill personally build a $5000 dollar arena and set it up at my work and the entry fees can pay me back over 10 years i dont care its not the point, what is the point is folks build whatever they want and if they get in the arena have a go and learn along the way thats what its about if a brick is judged to win against a flipper then so be it.
i would be dissapointed if any regulation was instigated upon one style of robot just to keep a few people happy twice a year
@ brett please continue what you are doing at sidetracked its what you want to do and if encourages folks to join the sport all the better. _________________ Photos - http://community.webshots.com/album/154092733uokpXC

Well tchnically the rules were changed serveral times through out the ears to make it more interesting for the audiance. Nets, sticky tape, gases and liquid based weapons are just some of the things that have been changed after a compitition were these robot made the fights too boring to watch. So saying that changing the rules just for the audianceis pointless is kind of against what the rules were actually designed for. Safety first, spectators second then builders third. Is this was before TV even got into the picture.

Yes would you really go back to letting a lifter hold its opponent up for the whole match. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

I am all for live and let live, if groups can cooperate to run back yard events that’s wonderful keep it up.
Before Brett got the Robowars events running we constantly had the dreaded insurance questions popping up.
There is lot more to a public event than a few grand for an arena.
I think Robowars has done a good job at giving the builders a legit comp and putting on a good show for the public.
Early days yet.
As far as numbers of Vic events go the situation could change rapidly.
If Sidetracked rebuild the dodgem car arena to include the Robot arena things can happen there more frequently and Daniel is still working on his mobile arena. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

This discussion has the potential to go nasty. Lets remember that we are all in this together and our common goal is to have fun while fighting robots. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

Maybe we prefer more than 3 bots to an event.
We do seem to be drifting from the game balance theme of the thread to a Comp / Show discussion, maybe that deserves its own thread then again it is relevant to some factors.
Ok Philip here is a straight answer to Sarge’s question
No house bots or pistons and kill saws. Bots weighed and teck inspected.
Proper elimination tree, real fights not rigged and scripted.
Rules and judging guidelines available before event.
Not that it should affect you, as you don’t seem inclined to participate.
So yes we do feel obliged to keep the venue owner and his customers happy but we have extra bots for fillers etc.
The competitors always get their minimum time between fights.
I had 4 extra bots there for fillers as well as keeping our competition bots going. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

You have it all wrong; you spend all your time building robots to avoid situations where you might get picked up by chicks. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

hey lets sought it out ,i tell you what ,have the common thought to treat our invitations and events with half as much relevants as you do your own ,what we do is ok bye me to say i dont compete in robowars is a fair statement i dont because for 1 reason and 1 reason only ,i wont go to trouble travelling to vic or qld to compete when i can do it 30min from home against what i consider the best builders and robots in oz, sorry if you consider that unreasonable but im a bloke of my convictions and i dont say it if i dont mean it ...but when some are arrogant enough to call your events the relavant ones, be it not directly but insinuating it crikey i do get annoyed .
lets have a chat in 15 years time and see who is still battling on satuday morning
