Anyone up for a planning meeting for the season and the annihilator this coming saturday? Good chance to debrief after robowars, exchange certain robots that certain people drove back up for them. Good chance to bounce some ideas around between us.

I know its short notice, but anyone interested?

I wouldn't be able to make it this weekend. The weekend after would suit me, but again people might not be able to make it to that! Laughing

I can make it, but not until around 11:30. It's a good opportunity to drop by P nP for some parts.

Series wound - let's look at some blower motors from older cars. I wonder if there is any way to tell if a motor is series wound before we take it out?

i had the old series wound motor before i sold it off, it had less power at low volts but 24v im not too sure..

maybe alot of the motors have the series windings bolted to the case like starter motors. you can usually see the bolts in the cases.

@nick
you might be able to see if the case is magnetised?
series wound shouldn't be or only minimal. cases on most PM motors seem to leak a fair amount of magnetism.

i might be able to make it the coming weekend.
sunday is probably best for me but i'll leave by 1.

Usualy a series would motor wil give no coging type resistance whe you turn it slow by hand most magnet types will some more than others depenging on magnet strenght and air gap .

That would probably be a good trick. Methinks you'd still have to tear the motor off first to test if it cogs or not though! Laughing
When Glen and I went to PnP not to long ago he was searching for a motor and we found one, but had a huge problem finding its actual terminals... and that was all we got. Sad

I guess we can take a battery pack and see which motors spin the same way when their polarity is reversed. It would be easier to do that with the motor in place than to turn it to test the cogging.

Me and Glen were thinking of something fun to do on sunday apart from the PnP raid. A while ago when glen hacked up a boat I went to a cheapo store and bought a freezer tray, and used that as a hull Laughing We propose that on sunday we have a ghetto robot boat race where the rules are you have to use a piece of kitchenware for the hull. Laughing Might have it as our gift to you eh welch Razz Come on, you all would have the random left over parts to throw something together in a couple of hours. Very Happy
I'll even offer a 60A brushless ESC to the winner... only if enough people do it though! Would be hillarious... Laughing

Also... I hate to do this *again* but due to office moving (which is why i'm busy saterday) my dad doesn't have the time to drive me to black town for the day, so if Nick you wouldn't mind again? It hasn't rained for a while... might even want to visit that dumpster... Very Happy

Is P n P happening on Sunday? If it is, what time? I'd be interested in tagging along for research purposes. Same re dumpster diving.

Great two days at Robowars 4. Speaking purely as part of the audience, the battles were awesome. My partner Sue loved it - and i wouldn't have picked bots as her speed at all.

Congratulations to all on a great show.
