First box 98% done, just needs front thrust washer and circlip.

Made the second drive shaft for the next gearbox

Rearranged the electronics today, shifted everything to the right side and can now fit the Sentilion brushless controller in there

Good work. Brushless controller in a wedge, more work ahead then...

What happened to the drill motor powered lifter; is it going brushless?

The lifter has been abandoned for now. I wasn't happy with the way it was setup. There are plans for a brushless powered drum built into the wedge like Cheeze Wedge, but that is pending on how much time I have after finishing these new drives.

Aim of the game is to just get it running reliable, and work from there Smile

Found a cool little feature in the iCharger 1010B today, it has a built in motor driver. Allows you to set a time limit, a voltage and an amperage limit and you connect a motor to the charger to break in the brushes. Probably not a feature I'll use much, but still an interesting feature to have in a charger. Cannot fault this charger yet!

Well Schmackhed is basically ready for Battleshed, just working out what color to paint it. New gearboxes seem to work very well, they are a little loud, but some growl from the drive gives it character Smile

Event Report: Epic Failure...

The new gearboxes were great, but now that the motors were staying together and I had put 40mm wide super grippy wheels on it, I could now get most of the drive power to the ground, and then I met the next problem. Chinese gears Laughing

Basically started tearing the sun gear off the second stage, which never happened before because something else always broke or I never had this level of traction... Just going to bung in a few spare carriers into the boxes and drop the voltage back to 13.2v (4cell) and just keep him for driving practice and to annoy the QLD with the awesome super low wedginess (Now adjustible because of my "night before battleshed adjustible castor"TM I made!).

So with this epic failure, I guess it's a message from the robot gods to move onto something new. Prelim ideas suggest a vert spinner Confused but fire seems to be a hot idea too... Cool

You probably made it impossible for you to make a flame robot when you showed us that clip in the flame weapons thread... Smile

YAY for flame bots they look cool
unfortunatly the vid nologer exists on why it would be such a bad reason. the discription does.

i dont think sidetracked like fire (that may never be a problem with how things are going however)

Resurrection

Well with the need for a test mule for the 42MM gear motors, I decided to dig this old beast out from the rusting steel pile and resurrect it Smile

Having an indestructible shell that survived hard assed spinners like Jolt and Rapture with nothing more then paint scratches, coupled with a wedge that is so low it shaves mdf like a planer, it was really only ever let down by the drive system. So with these new gearmotors showing great promise, maybe this time we will see the full potential of Schmackhed.

So here's the current specs:

Chassis/Armour: 2-6mm plough disc, 3mm mild steel & 3mm aluminium
Weapon: Epic wedge.
Drive: BotBitz 20V 42MM 14:1 gear motors on 22.2v (6S LiPol) with Colson 4" x 2" wheels
Controller: IFI Victor 883's & Spektrum BR6000
Batteries: 2x Turnigy 22.2v 6S 40C 2200mAh LiPol
Weight: 12.3KG

Picks of the build so far.

Then a quick video of when I had it going during the week giving the drives their first run.

Then today I moved onto painting it

More picks up when the paint is dry and it's all re-assembled
