gosh, finally u come to the forum Smile

Hey again fella,

best advice i would say is to go to your first event or build meet and just get some ideas/see robots for real and see what people have done and how they did it

That and also for your first machine keep it simple and reliable/easy and build it strong

A good place to start if the Wiki

http://www.robowars.org/wikka/RobowarsWikka1

and then look throu the posts in the forum.

Most information you need will be there.

then I'm sure you will have more questions.

Great find, I never saw that at Jaycar before Cool

Brett - this could be a very cool cross-marketing opportunity! You could link to Jaycar from the Robowars site for the book and parts, and they could put a promo flyer in each book. They would surely sell more books if buyers knew they had somewhere to compete.

I can remember Brett telling me Jaycar had a combat Robot book but he thought it was the worst on in print. This might be a new one.

They have it at my local one. Its the same one that you gave me andrew ages back (i still use it on occasion, but you can have it back if you like!) but I never bought it even when I was interested because it's $50 lol.

The best book I have seen is "Kickin'Bot" by Grant Imahara. Lots of really practical tech details in and written by an experienced comeptitor and move special effect builder.

Main criticism is its focussed on building a typical american battle-box rated BMW (Box with Motors and Wheels) and glosses over the weapons in a few pages. Apart from that, lots of good stuff in it.

I also have "Combat Robot Weapons" by Chris Hannold - a younger, less experienced competitor, its not a bad book. A bit light on details, more general principles and a lot of waffle. worth reading for the newbie who has delusions of a grenade launcher or rock-crusher to show them what is practical, but most builders who have been around for a while will find it pretty boring.

Theres another one I forget the name of (How to build your own Combat Robot maybe ? possibly by the same guy) that shows a cartoon-ish robot brandishing a big saw towards the reader on the cover. I dont have it, because I flipped through it and though "what a waste of paper"..

I dont recall exactly what it was I didnt like about it now, but I have the feeling it was aimed at 12yo boys who had just watched an episode of robot wars and needed to have the fact that you cant just drop a V8 and a 4 speed controlled by standard RC servo's in, pointed out to them.

Thats the one brett, "how to build a combat robot". Its massive, it's expensive and it's pretty lame. Rolling Eyes
