Marayong 22 - November 4

Never too early to start thinking about the next event and since this is probably the final for the year and the last event for us before Robowars, we should go all out to make it a good one.

I hardly have anything to do to Jolt, so I'm working hard on the undercutter and Chuck. Vertical spinners are big at the moment and it would be great to see Orbit and Plan ? making an appearance.

The original date for this event was put down for the 4th, just after the HSC axams - if that conflicts with anyone, please put your hand up EARLY, or miss out on a date change!

Not sure how i'm going to go for this one... Roadkill was pretty much totaled after our fight Nick, it "could" be repaired but it would mean replacing a lot, and i'd personaly prefer to get into the new vertical spinner. At the moment it's looking like if I can't source any aluminium it might be a no hoper for the event.

Just one issue... we probably should revert back to the old double elimination for this event... the round robin only works when it's done right, and last event was pretty pathetic... No offence to anyone, it just didn't work very well.

umm, just a slight note, am i the only one doing the HSC, cos if not the exams don't actually finish till the 15th, i'm just lucky and get them over with early

OK, let me know about exams - we figured out November 4th at the start of the year by looking at some on-line calendars - they could be old or just for public schools or just plain wrong. We could make the event on the 11th or the 18th; let's pick a date that suits most people and lock it in early.

If we have 6 or less bots, we can do the round robin thing like we did for Marayong 20, where it worked like magic. If we get more bots, then its double elimination.

Jeff mentioned that we had cracked the $500 dollar mark in the kitty; It sounds like we could fit in an arena upgrade day soon and fix up the lights and walls.

An alternative that was mentioned was to price some 3mm steel sheets to upgrade the floor, which is taking a beating. Steel is pretty cheap and we might be able to cover the entire floor for that much. Whether or not we can afford it, what are people's thoughts on the idea?

Laughing Ban the robot that does it. Laughing
THe problem is, we need a way to do it so the bots dont catch on seams... Would 3mm sheet be thick enough? If we can get it in 4 sheets should provide a solid base without too much problems relating to robots catching on it. Smile
Wern't we planning on using some MDF to protect the steel sides too?

Sorry to hear that, Andrew, hope you pick up some choice bot parts while you are over there.

@ Angus: Steel often comes in 1.2 by 2.4M sheets, so we could lay them down and use countersink screws around the edges into the floor tiles. If we grind a slight bevel on the top edges the bots should drive right over with out catching an edge. Thicker steel would be better but costs more < waits for Aaron to suggest Hardox>. If the 3mm is backed up by the tiles, I think it will last quite well.

Chris was going to donate some strips of MDF for the arena walls - we probably just have to arrange to pick it up and buy some bolts to attach it.

3.25mm Hardox 450 is only ~$1400 for a 6000 x 1500 sized sheet... Freight from Brisbane or Perth would be a bitch though Laughing

Magmotor Razz It's not much heavier then an EV... And your already running 3600's.... Magmotor also does 6000rpm instead of 4400rpm the EV is rated for.

The Mag is about 260 grams heavier and way more efficient. You could probably drop back the voltage by a few cells and still get more power from the weapon. Fitting a longer motor in the frame would be pain though.

Shocking news!

I have finally broken my builders block!
All it seemed I needed was a new band saw blade,,, amazing.
El B is driving and the flipper is reinstalled. It just needs a shell now and
minor bits and pieces to be ready to rumble. Yeha! Very Happy
