i guess the question is, is the sidewinder worth the extra $124US or so over the RS80?
best i've seen sidewinder for is $399US and rs80 $275US

Some guy on the rfl forum is selling a 75A Vantec you might want to check out:
http://www.fastelectricrobots.com/forsale.htm
Though it might not be enough for what you're after. Smile Cheaper tho.
EDITL: well same as the cheaper rs80 at least

OK, somehow I always thought of the RS80D as more expensive than the Sidewinder. Given that the RS80 is more flexible and has a BEC, I would go with it, unless the smaller size and interface seems worth the extra $$$.

Sidewinders also have BEC. And in what way are RS80D's more flexible then Sidewinders?

the sidewinder BEC is just a regulator, if VBat+ goes below 14v you have issues.
IBC's power input is really good in that regard.
Though a small stack of rechargablle lithium coin cells dosent sound too bad.
What are you using for that nick?

I asked about that, and a 14.8v Lipo pack is a bit too 'hot' for the BEC input. I was planning to use a tiny Lipo pack AND an S-BEC to give the sidewinder a smooth & isolated supply. If I run on more than 18V, I will just use the BEC off the main pack.

I got two tiny 7.4V, 300mAh packs; about the same volume and less weight than a sub-C Nicad. The Sidewinder draws bugger all from the BEC, so 300mAH should last several hours. I went with a BEC for more efficiency over the series regulator.

Nick (or prong) did you get to read the post before regarding the request for a lift? Heh it's just it sort of got mudded out by the sidewinder/rs80 convo. Smile
This should be a pretty damn compeditive event, much improved cobra, roadkill with countersunk screws... Grassy's new bot and el B to name a few! Very Happy

@ Angus: did you need a lift on the 4th or the 11th? There wasn't much interest in moving the event to the 11th as far as I could tell. I can do the 4th but I found out a few days ago that I probably can't do the 11th.
