Theres the start of a nice tutorial on servo-switching on the RoboWars Wiki at
http://www.robowars.org/wikka/MicroSwitching

If one of the servo switch gurus could cobble up a few diagrams and piccies to add to it, that would be great.. Smile

Assumed is that there are different voltages used on the opening of the relays. if not, you can wire them all on the same battery. I also assumed standard relays, not reversable ones.

Because the servo only operates 2 relays at the same time, they can not short, unless a relay is stuck. You make sure the failsafe sets the servo in the middle, your robot will be perfectly still.

Note, you will still need to put in a removable link or on/off switch in this scheme, either on the plus or minus sides of the battery (not sure what you use in australia).

Keep in mind that diagram used normal relays.

The automotive relays you can use have an extra pole in the switching side so you can use 2 relays to control one motor instead of 4.

Also running 12v you can use the same power source to switch the relay coils and drive the motors.

I have heaps and heaps of 24v relays hanging around so that shouldn't be a problem and my motors should be here this week so work will probably start here soon Smile
Maybe not as yet,I have been up for 27 hours watching HPV's screem past Shocked

Here's a pic from my site using TWO 12v batteries and 4 automotive type starter motor relays.

NOTE:-This is a 12volt drive system.
