Robotics combined with Robot Combat Shows ?
I'm thinking more and more along the lines of a future event working together with some people to see if we can organise a combined general "Hobby Robotics" exhibition that includes Robot Combat as a part of it.
I think it would be a good way to expose the adrenalin of Robot Combat to the general robotic hobbyists as well as encourage people to build things that are cool and not destined to meet their doom in 2 minutes against the lawnmower from hell.
Robot Combat is like the drag-racing of Robots. a great spectator sport, but kind of hard on the racers who bust their butts and their wallets for 10 seconds of track-time. Given the creative energies we have out there I think an oppourtunity to exhibit your work in a less "momentary" creation would appeal to a lot more people than demolition derby's do.
I'd like to see more of the Crab-Fu, POD, WereWolf, Skeletor style of articulated bots as well as the armoured war machines.
Thoughts ? Would you guys be interested in building stuff like that as well ? Remember, it wouldnt get destroyed in minutes, you could evolve them over time.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

I guess that's kinda what my lightweight concept is, huge off road wheels and four 300w scooter motors at 36v.. less of a combat robot, more of a really really big big boys toy
This idea also reminds me of kinetic sculptures... _________________ ( •_•)

oh yeah that would interest me greattllyyyy
been moving towards more artistic stuff anyway's like metal sculptures and what not and funky stuff
Did have planned a alien animatronic creature which would take some time but is very doable and interesting, would need to borrow more than one radio for it me thinks good thing ill have 3 and about 12 plus channels between em
On a random and simiiar note as another random artistic thing im gonna modify a little and make some decals and make the lockjaw frame a fire pit for out back, mwa ha ha ha _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

Whats is needed to make a multi-organisation event happen ?
The usual - lots of legwork, talking to people, making deals, trying to make sure the end result keeps everyone happy, promotion, production, and the performers (roboticists).
Lets kick some ideas around at Daniels get together this weekend. are you going to be there ? _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

That sounds cool, Andrew.
For my K9 I got one of
these
which I discovered at the Astromech builders (R2D2!). It's a 12 channel remote system, with 12 relays and a small remote. If you do a search on ebay for 12 channel remote you'll probably find it there.
I've since got a 6 channel Futaba but I'm still going to use this unit as well for controlling lights and stuff like that, I'm also going to connect it up to a CD player to get K9 to talk [/url]
