I used a $5 motor from Dicky's and the pack of Tamiya belts and pully's for my little vertical spinner. The only problem I've had is since I've only cable tied the motor in the tension on the belt pulls on the motor, which twists in the cable ties and throws the pullys out of alingment and the belt comes off. If I'm lucky and it stays on it works fine.

excuse me mister kerrison.

that is exactly what i planned on doing although when looked at the pulleys and such the centre hole is larger than that of the weopon motor shaft so can not press fit the pulley onto it.

The hole in the middle of it was around 4-5mm i think so what did u do to it and/or how did u mount pulley to motor or am looking at the wrong pullies here.

thanks.

lotsa things you can do, first of all fill the center of the hole up with epoxy, then redrill it to the correct size.

i think andrews done this with cheese shredders angle grinder gearbox.

Actually the bag of pullys also come with little hubs that press onto the shaft and then the pullys clip onto the hub, that way you can easily change the size pully you are using.

Well, actually, yep. I had too much money that week. The pillow blocks and weapon hub are from the RMP, but the axial is a 4mm screw with lots of nuts to act as spacers.
With all you lot building these things I might have to rebuild my ant.

I bought 2 x 3.6v DSE drives yesterday and hacked them today and they are great. The come with a fully enclosed planetary gearbox like the drills, only need a small mod to lock the motor and gearbox together and seem to havea bit of torque for on 3.6. The come with some 700mAh AA NiCD's.

I have some photos of what I have done here:

cool, the dse ones are a ton better than my old ones.

my ones used to have two drill nicad cells and the gearbox was just the case of the screwdriver itself, good to see the dse ones are half decent.

hey original_carnage is your still floating around, i think you work in a model shop so if you could answer this question itd be greatly appreciated.

im after a motor that has a load speed of about 20,000rpm off the shaft. the idea is that i have 10,000rpm after the 2:1 gearing onto my ants 150g spinner.

im hoping it runs at 4.8v and weighs ~50g. any suggestions?
