It's perfectly possible to use a conventional Rx in an ant, the weight isn't really an issue, maybe 10-20 grams extra, the space is just a matter of design.
Servos are a bit weedy as standard, but if you speed hack and up the voltage, they're in a different league. Though personally, I wouldn't be seen dead using them. Nice little direct drive dc motor for me
In Aust., for cheap / strong little servos to hack, have a look at "Bluebird" brand. I've hacked some Bluebird mini-servos (rated at 3.8kg torque) and they are doing quite nicely. Bluebird retail cheap ($12 and up) and can come metal-geared (if you have "spare" weight.)
Hi-tech recievers are getting tiny too, but you can save space and weight by removing them from their case and shrink-wrapping it instead. (just info for those who didn't know)
Looks like ants may be the go here huh?
I like the idea of bot fights in a pub - do you do that in the UK 3Faze ?
bot fights, chips and beer sounds GOOD ! _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.

Not so much anymore, the spinners kinda killed that , but when ants were first starting out it, it was normal to go to a live event with the feather/heavy, then go down the pub for a "few" beers and get the ants out on the table.

hey all,
am building a small rbot using spare rc car motors/gearbox's from a crapy k mart rc type thing. will be sorta vdd looking (beetlweight style).
i have basically everything either bought or planned but the weopon drive. I am using a small saw blade (got three in a pack for 20, woo) spinning vertical and at dick smith they have a descent motor that i will prob use but they do not pulleys and/or gears that can press fit onto the output shaft of them, i was thinking of using a rs550 since i am not building to any weight limit but not sure as of yet.
my question is, can u get pulleys and belts that r descent that will press fit onto those small motors shafts and such. if not i shall resort to making my own pulleys.
help would be appreciated though.
thanks. _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics
