just duct taped some more strips to the back of the boat to get there length right, seems like i got it now. Very Happy feel the powah

i might add some downward angled fins to the sides of the boat to keep it striaght. will make turning more difficult but straightline speed is what im after for it....

also thinking of swapping the gears around on the gearboxes so itll be 1:2 instead of 2:1 Twisted Evil *melty*

if you wanted straight line speed
make a U section (outta some of that copper impregnated balsa perhaps?)
that fits under the props and makes kinda a chanell outta them.

should give you some kind of rudder action too which might help with that veering

yeah just put it on straight Smile or you will get veering no matter what

also what you guys using for transmission? just a drill gearbox with some sort of funky prop setup or are you using that to belts to prop? (think i will use belts to prop since there is gonna be a bit of a step between where the motors are and where the prop needs to be)

a drill gearbox would have way too much reduction, i reckon 2:1 is probably too much.

most boats i know of either have a 2:1 reduction gearbox like mine or just direct drive off the motor with a universal joint of a flexible shaft. which i think would be the best way to go.

You don't need to protect the motor from water. You might find it easier to use direct drive and skip all of the problems associated with gearing. There are different props available to effectively change your gearing.

Fresh water doesn't conduct electricity very well. Do a test for yourself. Fill a container with tap water, and drop a motor into the water, power it up and see what happens. Don't do this with a mains powered motor.

Well, this weekend has seen a poor little NQD ebay hydro go through hell... and back Twisted Evil

First test with glen, screwed up... the drill motors pack a massive torque punch, and as soon as it was powered up near full, the couplings fell loose resulting in a dead in the water boat Sad

Today morning... i thought zipties around the couplings would help... me and my dad decided a test was in order before anyone bothered to film, so i powered up, soft started it and it rocked along for about 10 meters (actualy planed!) Then *bizzew*... the motors threw the zipties! Shocked

So... this arvo i attemped a new approach. Using 8mm drill bit stoppers, i wedged the rubber coupling to the motor, and jammed the stopper over them, then tightened the set screw...
Smile It is what was needed to hold it all in place... the props now have a chance to drive the ultimate powerplant this boat now has... at least till they tear up the rubber coupling! Laughing

Glen, prepare for PWNAGE Twisted Evil

Oh, also, here's a little video comparing the thrust of the stock and modded NQD, as well as some specs. Smile Darn school means no boating till next weekend! Sad
