Eh, I'm sick of typing so this will be short.
The radio in retread died too, so if i can get another before next event I'll be htere with retread.
In other news i'm building my beetle weight. So there'll be 3 bots. Its frame and components are done. Just need to armor it and try and keep it under weight.

Or plan B for radio situation is to purchase new one. Anyone got any leads on decent controls new or used that won't break the bank?

well our radios are too old to compete with at robowars anyway, the 4 channel in re tread being about 22 years old!
rules claim you need a pre 1991 narrow band radio

The Tower Hobbies (Www.towerhobbies.com), Futaba SS-3 or Hitec 3 Channel AM radios on 75mhz land in Australia for about $100 (maybe $120 depending on the $ rate) new (Tx and Rx).
As often mentioned before, Team Rotwang has found them to be very good value and superior for resisting interference. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

Theres afew options open to you. You could get a futaba skysport 4ch with reciever and two servos for about $200, and is FM... however prong you may hate the fact the trottle channel makes tank steering suck even more (remember my radio?)... you cant mod it and change the throttle either.
Other wise some fairly cheap radios ive seen are
