Sorry for starting a new topic but i'd much rather find what I need to know rather than scratching up information on other threads. Anyways I need to know what i can use for Pneumatic pistons

This sort of topic would normally go in the Tech area.
That is a good question. Specific questions are always easier to answer than the more general type of question.
I assume you wish to know about the entire ram.
IMO the easiest way to get a pneumatic ram is to buy one. Hopefully you can find one second hand.
You could also modify a pump to use it as a ram as Daniel said in another thread.
You could build a low-pressure ram from scratch using pvc tube with a poly ram and an O-ring for a seal.
You would probably find one of the first two options the easiest, Daniel's system sounds like an ideal way to start.
Good luck _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

hydraulics would be much discouraged for the begineer too, i reckon youd need specialist aluminium parts for a hydraulic system in a featherweight.
the bike pump is the way to go for the beginner, along with those new solenoid valves or an air duster handle (the eariler is probably better as jeffs way looks fiddly and never really vented the gas, i think it had something to do with a valve in their).
and i would play with low <30psi stuff first, ive heard of a few cases of bike pumps exploding the piston out all over the place lol. i wouldnt want to be in the way of one. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

A friend of mine says he can maybee get me an old small gass cylinder (about a foot long by aboout5 inches (sorry about the AI mesurements).
so about 30 psi and modified bike pumps. What about the foot powered heavy duty bike pumps???

Foot powered pumps are good I was going to use one but it disappeared somewhere in the shed. Have you ever played with bottle rockets?
You can set up PET(soft drink) bottles to hold gas and then us a watering system valve from mitre ten or equiv. to trigger it. Add that plus a lot of hose clamps and you can have a flipper. Probably not the best thing to start off with. If you want to see a real flipper come see marauder. it missed and hit the screen bout 1.5m up. yes it threw itself _________________ Steven Martin

yeah once i made an air brush that i ran off a coke bottle. i drilled a hole in the lid and put a bike tire valve in it.

Pneumatics are easy. You can give yourself more flips from your robot by using CO2 and regulate it down to 100 psi and feed it into your soft drink bottle. Soda stream canisters can be used for anyone not comfortable with the idea of refilling their own bottles. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
would 150 psi make a heavy duty foot pump explode???

Yep
Marshall had one explode at 120psi. He said it sounded like a shot gun.

You would also pop your soft drink bottle at 150psi. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
no im using a gass cylinder but do u think it would explode if i regulated it at about 50-70 psi

What is the rated pressure on the gas cylinder?
Soft drink bottles are very light. You will need to keep a keen eye on the weight of all of your components.
In theory, we are supposed to only use pneumatic equipment that is rated for a given pressure. In practice, not many bots do.
You should have a tether of some sort to stop the flipper arm before it pulls on the bike pump that is used as a ram. Some door closers can also be modified to be used as rams. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
My friend is going to get the cylinder checked out by a guy that checks divers air tanks to see if he rekons its safe to put 150 psi in it

Here is a site detailing how to make a ram. http://www.llund.com/pne_cyl.htm _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
