I am looking at making my first combat bot (wedge or ram type) however have parts at home from earlier projects.

I have a sabertooth 2x5A (claims 10A for a few sec is ok), would it be capable of running the 12V 1000RPM ebay motors if they stall at 10A as per Marto's information?

Heya,
This is Angus, I had that wedge mudkip yesterday. I usually run that exact controller with 4 x 1000rpm motors at 14.4v. It works flawlessly and gives excellent control. Very Happy Best thing is if a drive does bind up, it will limit the current.

Beetle motors are 3A stall on 7.4V or about that.

hi,

I want to try and build an overhead axe weopon on a beetleweight.

The main thing stumping me is how to swing it tho.

Idea i had was to use 2 1000 rpm gearmotors or a slightly smaller ratio setup from a store on ebay but main issue is how to drive it.

Timing belts/pulleys would be ideal but getting the parts required is fiddly

Was thinking maybe chain drive but yeah

wanted to see what peoples thoughts are.

Thanks for any assistance

Hi

Could i please get an estimated recomended battery capacity for a bot fight. (Making a serious shopping list, for hopefully 1 big purchase)

Beetle with 4x 12V 1000RPM ebay motors as a ramming bot.
Ant with 2x 6V 400RPM ebay motors for a wedge or wedge / lifter.

Regards,
Ken

PS. Cheers Angus for the info on the Sabertooth. 1 less item to buy.

Probably would be fine with a 500mah lipoly for the beetle, 15-20c should do it. (my spinner one ran a 20c 500mah battery for reference Smile )

Ant im not too sure, one of the qld'ers would be more qualified to say then i, but probably 300mah would be heaps. I got some 180mah cells for mine and its a two wheeled pushy bot. i think itll be alright. Razz

180+mah for a pushy ant.
240+mah for a spinner ant.

For a rammer beetleweight try to get a four cell battery, that gives you 14.4v and that edge of speed, the motors don't mind the subtle over volting, I was considering pushing them even further... Smile The smallest 4S pack I could find was 1000mah and way overkill, you could easily use two 2 cell 500mah packs in series though!

Just a quick one for the beetle builders. If your looking for "bog washers" to make wheels out of, these are the ones your chasing.

Fix-A-Loo - Product# 226297 - Cistern Washers - Outlet, suits Brent cisterns before 1978.
http://www.fixatap.com.au/product/seating-washer-thick-suits-brent-old-style/226297

They are 60MM in diameter and around 10MM thick with a 3-4mm inner hole. I picked up a bunch of them at Mitre10 for $3ea, but there are probably cheaper places to get them.

The ones I used were these ones i'm pretty sure:

But those 10mm thick ones would probably mean you don't need to double up! Smile Smile

This is more helpful than they are "big washers at bunnings"
