Background
Through a turn of events, we will probably be invited to put on static display (and maybe 'safe' demos) at the Univerisity of Southern Queensland's (Toowoomba campus) open day..... sometime in August. We are talking exposure to approx. 9000 people.
The display/demos will be to help promote the "Mechatronics" side of the uni's robotics courses.
The uni already does the robot car racing (and mouse maze... I think) but the lecturer I was talking to today said that robotic combat could be just the thing for the mechanical/build side of what they do.....
So
Since others have done demos before, is there any advice that anyone could impart?
e.g.- are info sheets worth while?
should one of the bots be just framework/running gear?
should the bots be polished/painted/presentable or rough and ready to remove the mystery ?
Is there a promo flyer? (you know... lists the web site, talks briefly about the bots... that kind of thing)
any help??? _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.

have a good answer to this question -
"why do you build these things just to have them destroyed" because at the victorian engineering demo it was coming up all the time. i must say though that was one of the best get togethers ive had, getting to meet all the public and their reactions was great.
brett could probably pass on the robowars posters and handouts and things but id assume youd want yours to have the website, next event date, event address etc.
robots appearance... well i just took mine all demolished and battle damage wasnt looking too pristine either :p, i guess the state they are currently in is a true representation of what a combat robot really is.
being able to see the parts in a few of the robots is a plus, people always want to know what drives it and how you make the drills work in the robots and what not.
im sure brett + gary and the like can shed alot of information on the subject as theyve done a few of those type things. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Well this has turned out to be a good week for the Queenslanders.
We have ant weights, coke bottle pneumatics, a sexy new omni bot and I could even get a servo switching, non driving, Hellbringer 1 back together. I still haven't tried putting the ant weight arnea in the car, but I wouldn't reckomend it this time.
I even made a 7 minute long promo video a few months ago that I havn't shown anyone that is really good for this sort of thing.
Can we come? _________________ Get Some!!!

The more bots and people, the merry-er.....
I still don't have too much info to go by about the open day.... I'll hunt down more details soon. _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.
Open Day = August 21
10am to 3pm.... approx 9000 people in only 5 hours.
Still waiting to hear back about site tables, power for tv&dvd/video player, set up times, etc.... will keep you posted.
Any bots (reguardless of weight class or current condition) are welcome.
Anyone can come, just let me know numbers.... _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.

If you can get power, I can bring my PC with around 5GB of robot videos and pictures and have a lovely 17inch flat screen LCD to dsiplay it all on
I also have a DVD rom/burner which we can play the Annihilator and RoboWars 2 DVD's with. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

lol, and don't forget to be on sharp alert for insurance salesmen... XD _________________ ( •_•)
We have a 6ftx4ft table. Mains power. Dr. Pather (the lecturer who invited us) is also trying to get us some free-lunch vouchers.
We must be onsite from 9am to 3pm.
Dr. Pather says (with past experiance of their open days) that we'd probably only need 3 people to 'man' the site.... he didn't say we could have only 3 (but don't be surprised if we score only 3 lunch vouchers).
I've sort of become the contact for this promo day, but you guys know as well as I do, that I'm probably the worst person (at this stage) to be trying to answer any tech questions about the 'bots.
So volunteers and bots for display need only say so/turn up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
wouldn't it be great to see uni-students versus us in robotic combat at a uni-budgeted arena.
.....or even bot combat as a new event at the university games.... _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.

6ft by 4ft. Thats exactly what I expected. So which 3 robots in Qld look the best
with their safety covers on.
I really doubt that we could have enough people behind the table to stop every person from getting too close to unprotected points.
Also a continouly running DVD, like the music videos on the MMM Gourmet Damage DVD, would be better then a computer. Thats if it'll fit on the table with the robots. _________________ Get Some!!!

I would have to say, Sidewinder, Vertical Limit and Marauder. Three different styles of robots and each looks very dangerous _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
