www.cncbotparts.com for the hubs.

note to tim, basilisk mag has blow motors at every event thus far as did minotaur, tho singularity oddly works fine with the setup

I run everything at 18V, including the motors. The main problem is broken pins in the gearboxes, followed shortly after by smoking motors and / or FETS. The skinny 7/8" Colsons reduced this dramatically and it only occurs if the Basilisk is loaded down with extra weight from another bot on top of it. The Colsons have better traction than the Bunnings wheel and that is the trade-off. I suspect that Singularity doesn't have problems is that he is distributing the same weight around 6 wheels so the torque needed to make the wheels break traction is much lower and saves the gears.

95mm tim, about 3.5" or something like that.

thing i hate most about red wheels is how damn fast they wear out.

At 18v do your drill motors fry your ibc when stalling?

Im thinken off buying an 80 amp watt meter from the r.m.p so me and who ever els can mesure there motors current eg drill motors so we can get a good idea on what they draw and allso test other motors before we hook em up to our ibc's and blow em up Laughing

Would that be a good idea? Razz

Well, you can buy the dedicated meter from RMP or you can get a more general-purpose and useful meter locally. I bought this thing from Jaycar:

http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=QM1562&CATID=12&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=300

Its a generic Chinese meter, so you might find it cheaper if you Google it. If you don't already have a multimeter, this is ideal for bot building and I hardly touch my other meters. The clamp-on current function is worth the price by itself Cool .

Hey all i have found some 9.6v drills for $18 at k mart and they are the same drill case gearbox and all as the ux1's but they are 9.6v

If i ran them at 12v would they have more power then the ux1's?
There not kk2 brand but they are prob the same drill just doff brand.

tim -

yes they sure as hell will have more power. ive tried nearly all drill combo known to man, 9.6v at 12v, 12v at 24v and 12v at 14.4v. ive also seen 18v at 24v, 12v at 18v and so on.

probably the best combo ive seen is the 9.6v at 12v for pushing power on a 2 wheeler bot. ive used it on both screwy and cobra and i love the setup.

one thing though, your current draw will go up compared to using 12v motors.

err well rpm is 550rpm and current draw free load i think was about 3 amps when nick measured it on the amp metre. (was that right nick?)

but this should help you work things out.

- a 2.3ah sla battery will keep two 12v drives going for 3 minutes comfortably.
- a 2.3ah sla battery will keep two 9.6v at 12v drives going for 3 minutes but only just
- 2x 2.3ah batteries in series will not run two 12v at 24v drives going for 3 minutes (only about 2 minutes best)
- 2x 2.3ah batteries in parrallel will run two 9.6v at 12v for about 10 minutes.

you should be able to work out the average current draw and duty cycle from that.

and nearly every drill is 3/8" UNF. i reckon that big tap set you bought probably has one of those in it, its probably got every other type Very Happy

If i using colsen wheels and 9.6v drills do you think ill be more likely to braek a gear box?

And ill be running 2 12v packs 3600nicad in searess to make 24v but the drill motors will be running at 12v.

so its probb not a good idea to run 9.6v motors then?

If your using drills, just shove the Colsons in the bin, too many issues (Unless your using 6WD, Singularity seems fine). Go the redwheels, any traction loss you have will be minor as most spinning robot arn't designed to be ass hauling pushy bots.
