BEAM robotics

Hey all, i found out about this little robotics thing, involving simple componants to create autonomous movement rather than complex microprocesers (shpelling?). Theres a bucket load of sites, but i still can't find out how it quite works. Also i bought alittle experimenters kit of ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5782631101&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

I read somewhere an interview wih Mark Tilden, he programmed a bot with Asimov's laws. When ever someone went near it, it would shiver (you know like when you are cold).
So he made his own 'laws' - which puts more emphasis on the bots own survival....

Well, i just made my first BEAM robot!
(well, it isnt actualy a BEAM design.. i made it up because all the ones i could find on the net involved solar cells). Its got two cd opener motors with little wheels connected directly to the shaft, driven by a 3.6v phone battery. Its actualy a very interesting robot, and works by spinning supposably on a dime, but it doesn't, and moves around the room (in supprisingly straight lines Shocked ). I also thought adding one of my superbright white LED's would make an interesting light show, but instead, the led flashes once when i start the bot, and in interesting patterns when it runs into obsticals. Because each motor and the LED are in parralel, i was quite suprised when this happened, but the battery must not be supplying enough current or something Confused , meh, its way cooler anyways.
I'll post a pic when my camera is working. Sad
Wow! Its actualy a very good obstical avoiding robot! Very Happy
