Good to hear Sharpshooter is going good. How are those speed controllers going? We found the problem with the old ones, one of the servo pins had shifted and was intermittantly working, which would explain why one side would keep stopping on you.

hahahahaha what a great day. X-9 was ripped in half (literally! wait till you see the video footage lol), ! warning, my flea weight, didnt get much of a show cause it had no competition and finally.... <drum roll> sharpshooter didnt move cause i left the removable link at home lol

Aaron, the speed controllers are going great. I had a minour problem in recent weeks and that was after a few minutes of driving one of the microswitches were shifting slightly causing it to lose contact with the servo. that problem was rectified by putting a tiny drop of 3 second superglue in there. no more probs.

Thanks for a great day everybody. From chris

Some dirt in the pneumatics managed to stop Marauders weapon. It is all clean now but there is plenty of tweaking before Marauder is up to speed.

Damn Chris, why did you say there was going to be a video. I'm running out of music thats under 2 minutes long so I'm having to pad it out with boreing stuff. So now I'm going subject you with brass band music. The song is called Kalinka played by the Nambour & Maroochy District Brass Band during the 2001 Sunshine Festival of Brass. I was playing trombone in this song.

LOL at the toy car getting vapourised.

that 4 wheeled rammer looks impressive, are the wheels tilted in or are the drills a tad loose or something? just looked a bit canted in the video.

Well with the Axe being over weight I needed something simple, quick and light to build. And that Budget Bot spinner was the first thing I thought of. It was 15.24kg, its now 11.82kg.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, we don't own a digital video camera. But I bring our tapey camera with us.

Actually the center of the hubs on 3 of the 4 wheels have been completly chewed away and there isn't really anything attaching them to the drills. I was going to buy some more, but I stood in the doorway of Bunnings today a forgot why I was there.

Ok, I'll do a song where you can actually hear me next time. By the way, thats a very popular russian drinking song.

Marauder could do with a test run before HOC. Is anyone up for a park meet?

Emigrating to Brisbane from UK with X-Terminator - PLSE HLP

First off, Hello to all fellow Roboteers,I'm extremely glad to see a thriving Robot following in Oz as well as UK.I am moving to Brisbane on the 8th of Oct and bringing my robot X-Terminator with me (UK 7th wars Grand Finalist)
Just wondering if you can help me with the following questions (Very sorry if questions are duplicated elsewhere)

Here we go,any help would be gratefully received.

1. How are most of the Oz compititions stuctured, does most of the fighting stay within states or interstates and is there one major club that you are a member of or are there several.

2. Are there any televised events in Brisbane / Austrailia.

3. Do you work to a common set of rules and are they readily available somewhere.

4. Is there one or several arenas doing the circuits and are they all rated/allowed to have spinners fighting.

5. I am planning to settle in the Brisbane area but have not finalised exactly where, just wondering if there are any major areas where industry/engineering is based, will be looking for work as an Instrument Engineer when I arrive and would prefer to settle new where I work.In the UK we quite often have Industrial Estates but I beleive things are a little different down there.

That's it I think, thanks in advance, any other advice/comments/contacts would be great and I look forward to meeting some of you in the near future.

Hello and welcome. Good to see you and hope you enjoy it here so on and so forth.

Here are some answers to your questions:

1. Just about all the comps in Australia are simple meeting in someones garage. Feather weights are the favorite. The Victorians are going for more public events at amusment centers but most of us spend more time building than organising events. Travelling interstate is something done only once a year for most people as the distances are a bit much to do it too often.

2. Televised? Answer is above.

3. We use a modified version of the RFL rules which can be found on the home page (www.robowars.org)

4. Since all the arenas in QLD are walled off areas of peoples garages or sheds they don't move far. You have to be willing to travel I'm afraid. As for spinner proof, at the moment a majority of robots are feather-weights so that is what the arenas can handle, spinners and all.

5. A majority of the industry takes place on the south-side but there is a bit up real side of the river. Can't help too much myself there.

I hope I helped with at some of your questions there.
