I'm looking at a Futaba Skysport 4 channel to run my Featherweight. Any suggestions, pros/cons?

I use a skysport 4chn too, its really good for the price, with 2chn for the drive, leaving alot of room for a weapon (plus you can easily mod a 5th channel on it). Heaps of other people use it, so it is highly recommended! Very Happy

I heard that the Futaba distributor in Australia was very slack.

Its not strictly speaking legal, so I didnt actually say this..

But I'd reccomend buying a 72/75mhz radio from www.towerhobbies.com, we found that they work heaps better and suffer less interference than the australian 29/36mhz radios (which need a longer aerial Wink) because of their lower frequency.

You can land a 3-channel in Australia from tower for about $100, and I think Gary got a 4 channel for about $140.

If you can spring the extra $, go the Futaba 7CAP PCM radio and forget about ever having interference problems again (Once you figure out how to program it.. its complex)..

Dont forget to check the frequencies tables on http://www.robowars.org/frequencies.html to make sure you dont get the same crystals as someone else..

Well the 36mhz air frequency on a ground based vehical isn't too lega either, but the ACA never really said much about it when we asked them back in the days of ARWO/ABBL.

I agree with Brett, 72-75mhz radios are cheap and work much better then the 29-36mhz. I currently own two 29mhz, one 40mhz & one 72mhz radio and have to say the 72mhz performs better then the others. At www.towerhobbies.com you can purchase a 3ch 72mhz FM Narrow Band radio (2 x micro servos and micro RX as well) for only $130 Aussie including postage.

But I won't disrespect the 36mhz Skysport 4 radios either, as Andrew has 3 of them currently and they work well with a tuned aerial.

i have an airtronics mx3 wheel radio purely because its the only cheap 3ch wheel radio, i wouldnt recommend it unless your really desperate about getting a wheel radio like mine.

after the rx mysteriously died and the batteries repeatedly go flat in the transmitter but apart from that its great.
